    top 14 albums:

    14. Brittany Spencer - My Stupid Life (glad to know I was ahead of the bandwagon before we even knew beyonce had her on her country carter album. ktt2.com/brittney-spencer-wit-a-country-album-of-the-year-candidate-yee-haw-32567016 The yeehawifcation of black music I'm all for it and shoutout to Shaboozey but Brittany Spencer had the best black country album this year. Check it out.)

    13. Willow Smith - empathogen (I'm a sucker for these kinda records. I've been tuned into Willow's "holy s*** she really getting in her jazz bag" s*** since she been posting those bassline clips. But this album shocked tf outta me. The time signature changes and the harmonies and so many stank face moments. I know we look down on "nepo baby" but man it's good to see when those actually use the privilege they have to put in the WORK.)

    12. Nxworries - Why Lawd? (Why Lawd did this not drop in the fall MAN this coulda hit harder. I'ma admit this one was a grower. The change in tone to seriousness was a bit to get used to especially towards the middle where it gets mad slow but as it got colder? I get it Paak. another top tier release in a great discography of prolly the better modern producer-artist duo only second to Madlib and Freddie)

    11. Glorilla - Glorious (her and Billie the comeback artists of the year. The streets was really talking like my sexy accented BM was really done out here. We got an album full of character and dope rapping with attitude. And she even showed some versatility with the little gospel bag in there. Biggest accomplishment was bringing out some of Megan's most inspired rapping I've heard in a minute. Big Glo really showed she's here to stay.)

(I'm the brown skinned nigga with dreads that she was talking about btw.)

    10. Rayvn Lenae - Bird's Eye (I'm a Ravyn Lenae stan. She one of my fav voices in R&B and has always caught my attention anytime she's dropped a project. Hypnos was a good project but one thing that held it back for me was she got into this whispery/janet-esque back that at times made it hard to understand what she was saying sometimes. Bird's Eye felt like she got the balance down pat. Tearjerker songs like I Wish or funky ass joints like Love Me Not (sidebar: need an entirely raphael saadiq produced 60s-70s R&B album by her after listening to this song. @Aquilla RT)

    9. scHoolboy Q - Blue Lips (I. Love. Artsy. Schoolboy. My favorite type of Schoolboy. It's why Crash Talk was such a dissapointment. But good lord hearing offbeat ass Nunu felt like such a breath of fresh air. Thank God For Me one of my fav bangers to play all year. Cooties flow is bonkers. Pop making me hate my goddamn job for making me work the night I was supposed to go see him live and moshpit to that song. Too many moments I loved and just glad to see him in a healthy and better mindstate. Best TDE release of 2024)

    8. Mach Hommy - #RICHAXXHAITIAN (My 2nd favorite Mach album. Some of his best displays of rapping I've ever heard out of him. Honestly it would be better than Balens Cho. if not for Your Old Droog dropping what's probably the worst verse of 2024 on this album. Conductor Williams gave this Haitian nigga some of his BEST production ever and how many times do we need to beg before Kaytranada and Mach make a collab album???)

    7. Tyler the Creator - Chromakoooooooopia (the more I sit with this, even with its flaws and all. This gonna ultimately end up standing in my 2nd place right behind Flower Boy. In the words of my homegirl i wanted him gay and suffering like Igor and all I got was suffering. 10 out of 10. This was him touching on some grown up topics which due to his arrested development, some of it came off a lil juvenile. But it's that same juvenile that made us fall in love with the boy. Shoutout to Sticky man that s*** got asses shaking out here in nyc.)

    6. Raveena - Where The Butterflies Go In The Rain (Asha's Awakening is one of my fav albums of this decade. So anytime this girl dropping something I'm tuning tf in. This album felt like a great balance of the lowkey/jazziness of Lucid and the musicality of Asha's Awakening and it creates this lush environment of sounds that creates moments like Pluto or Every Color or 16 Candles outro (which had me tearing up many times).

    5. mk.gee - Two Star and The Dream Police (I'ma keep this short. This white boy got it dawg. Just listen to the damn album. I was listening to like 3-4 songs for like 3 months straight just to become fixated on the song below out of nowhere for the last 2 months. He cool with Dijon so it make sense he's great.)

4.Kenny Mason - 9/Angel Eyes (my favorite new rapper and the best rapper out of my city. I put both 9 and Angel Eyes together cause they short af and honestly could've been a god tier double album if he had dropped it that way. Mans just gets better and better with these bags he can get in and Coupe is a goddamn cheat code.

I had felt the bullets comin' but I couldn't duck 'em
I know the shooter was a user, so I couldn't judge him
For shootin' up, we grew accustomed to abusin' uppers
He booted up in a confusion then the fuse erupted
He let that Ruger stutter, but I refuse to suffer
I know the root of evil, but what's root of lovin'?

mans a GOAT in the making.)

    3. Kendrick Lamar - gnx (No explanation needed. The nigga rapped over one of my favorite Pac songs ever.)

    2. Charli XCX - brat (I have never been a charli fan. I have never actively tuned in to charli. I never was waiting for a charli drop. So when my white homie told me this album helped them and their sibling rekindle their relationship, I was f***ing curious. NIGGA, some of the craziest production I have heard in my life. I'm straight edge but even I can acknowledge when cocaine really do make some s*** better, the production itself sounds like it was sniffing lines. songs like 360, apple, and I think about it all the time are beautiful dawg. A landmark album, this s*** alone was gonna make 2024 a good year for music)

    1. Jean Dawson - Glimmer Of God (I love this nigga man. Every album gets better and contrary to the "yo he'll never top pixel bath" crowd, songs like Black Sugar, You're Bleeding Everywhere, The Boy and the Swan, and Darling show that mans really just getting started. If "motherfuck a genre" had a face, it would be this heavy jacket in a hot ass venue wearing ass Mexican nigga. Not many people have me standing in a long (and I mean LONG) ass line outside Webster Hall.)

    top 14 songs

    14. Brittany Howard - Samson

(insertcoolnamehere clearly was in his feels a good portion of 2024. Man the emotion in this song from the lyrics to the trumpet player going tf off for the 2nd half of this song dawg )

    13. Vince Staples - Little Homies

(album was a bit too subdued but when I tell ya I had this s*** on repeat through the jump rope routines this summer mannn. Always gonna bump Vince Staples)

    12. 1010benja - I Can

(this s*** was catchy dawg. This weird nigga had himself a sleeper of an album that I think cause of how early it dropped aint get a lot of props)

    11. MIKE - R&B

(glowed up MIKE I'm all the way here for it. Pinball was a fire "MIKE is outside" album.)

    10. Tia Corine - Olive (feat. ZelooperZ)

(the song that made me look at BYNX like

Shoutout to Tia Corine on a dope project this year.)

    9. Daryl Johns - I'm So Serious

(I f***ing love this song, it's so cheesy and 80s coded that it turns into something catchy. Highly recommend his self titled if you a fan of this and prog-jazz type s***.)

    8. Glorilla - I AINT GOING

( Make. Abusers. Afraid. Again. Lyrical diversity in female rap let's f***ing go.)

  • Jan 2

    7. Doechii - Nissan Altima

(listening to the #harriettubman music talkin bout d*** suck and sticks lol. But nah Doechii got next. Her project this year showcased alot of her versatility and potential but in the words of paul pierce, "I want the whole load")

    6. Billie Eilish - Birds of a Feather

(you know a song is great when not even the very mid music video can deter its momentum. This song gon stay up for a long time man.)

    5. Hiatus Kiayote - Cinnamon temple/love heart cheat code

(they on the same album, sue me. This band's reached that point they are so consistently good that the s*** is natural. Mood Valiant I think I prefer but the high moments of this album are HIGH)

    4. Beyonce - Most Wanted (feat. Miley Cyrus)

(best duet of the year & best song from Cowboy Carter. Afterwards it's Alligator Tears but man, songs like these are what I was hoping for when I heard Bey was making a country album. I think for me what was the miss what she was half in half out instead of leaning all the way in, niggas shouldnt be surprised it aint get nominated at whatever country awards thing.)

    3. Kendrick Lamar - Euphoria

(kendrick's best overall track in "the beef" from the beat to the lyrics to just...everything around it. Man made a 6 minute song a banger in 2024 that itself is an accomplishment.)

    2. Jean Dawson - Black Sugar

(Jean Dawson on some Prince s*** all I can tell you is the way we went up in Webster Hall when he did this song? )

    1. Childish Gambino - Dadvocate

(the times I've cried to this one dawg lol. Album was very eh but good god this song beautiful.)

    verse of the year:

Felix of Paris Texas last verse

I hope my pops, his blood wash over me like DMX
To this day I still regret not being there for his last breath
Before he dropped, I couldn't help but fall victim to change
To be my biggest fan and balance somewhat pseudo-fame
The thoughts I can't restrain but should never get entertained
Feedback I'm gettin' could turn silence to the loudest thing

    Honorable mentions:

Kendrick Lamar - Meet The Grahams (last verse)
Freddie Gibbs - Back To Me
    Earl Sweatshirt - Words2LiveBy
Megan Thee Stallion - How I Look

bottom 3 worst (not gonna actually put heart pt 6 in here because it's given us too many quotables)

    3. Tommy Richman - Whitney

    ( 0:28 - 0:40 )

    2. Nicki Minaj - Big Foot

(why do you tweet out all your disses before you drop the diss?)

    1. J Cole - Fever

(there was absolutely no reason for this song.)
