Regardless, I’m not sure what compelled them to copy an 8 year old dead Snapchat feature to begin with

Location tracking seems to be popular with zoomers, between each other and their parents

I imagine theres a lot of metadata being sold from it

Why would somebody want this on?

Same reason people had it on when it was introduced on snap

technology should not be adversarial in nature. some of the brightest minds of our generation are at work trying to figure out how to keep people's attention focused on apps and advertising and there is billions of dollars behind that goal.

it is disingenuous and ignorant regarding the problem at hand to suggest that one should simply exercise their willpower against these monolithic powers rather than suggest that there ought to be regulations in place to ensure that technology is built in a way that isnt adversarial and instead benefits the common person

still tho uninstall that s*** fellas

I don’t understand why this feature was necessary

If you want to share locations with your friends just use the Find My app

Lot of young people (I'm late 20s) see Meta (FB, IG, Whatsapp) as a phone or operating system. They use it from everything to calls to messaging like a telephone company and tech company all in one

Why would I use a separate app for that though

Why would I use a separate app for that though

Because it’s not integrated into social media and not all of my friends have IG

When it first rolled out it was on by default for a lot of people especially those with large followings and business accounts. Myself included. Luckily i dont follow a lot of people but several ppl pointed out to me that I was showing up on the map.

This also introduces another risk of having a compromised account, which has happened to me more than once, but a bad agent could easily turn it on and have you follow someone who wants to know where you are and figure that out.
