Was hanging out with my friend at his house and he put on some Slayer. Never really paid listened or attempted to listen to metal but I really liked the s*** he was playing. Put me on to stuff that sounds similar to Slayer or just sounds good in general.
Metal as a genre is so broad with so many different sounds (I mostly listen to doom metal and it's subsequent subgenres) so I'll just throw a few things out there and see what sticks and we can always go from there.
since you liked Slayer id probably rec these other thrash metal albums first
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Metallica - Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
then try some of these out for different subgenres
Black Sabbath - Paranoid (heavy metal/hard rock)
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance (heavy metal)
Iron Maiden - Powerslave (heavy metal)
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (death metal)
Bathory - Blood Fire Death (black metal)
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (doom metal)
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (gothic metal)
Mastodon - Leviathan (sludge metal)
all the subgenres themselves are super deep and splinter off into a hundred different directions so just find something you like and continue down that path
Do you like slow and sluggy or fast and brutal. Old classics or new s***?
This is like the slayer era stuff

Yeah, go with this post, @op . It's pretty much a starter pack with a decent variety of sounds to get an idea of what you like. Just remember that metal is a MASSIVE genre.
You should check out the metal thread too aside from these replies, a lot of good recs and knowledgeable users
