Hov never received a pass. He was getting roasted for being on that wave for Blueprint 3 and MCHG.

Y'all dorks gotta stop tryna rewrite history just to desperately defend Drake.

    Exactly.

Both Jay and Wayne were heavily criticized for that s***.

    Literal YEARS

I truly believe a lot of Drake fans have a very limited knowledge of rap music outside of Drake

Don't forget how the old KTT was s***ting on Kanye for those mid Tekashi and Lil Pump collabs.

Also, FATD is still selling a lot and charting/streaming well.

And KTT2 is damn near a Drake stan forum after Kanye's been in a sunken place.

So, why do ya'll even care what the "basement dwelling hip hop fans" think to begin with?

It's not like these Internet dwellers have any impact on Drake's ability to sell or tour.

I lowkey think Drake fans themselves are disappointed that this album wasn't the magnum opus retirement album(ala Black Album) that Drake was promoting it as and now they're arguing with "lames" and critics instead of letting the music speak for itself.

Edit: That usually happens when any artist drops a project that they know didn't live up to the hype though. They feel that they have to go HAM at any critic to justify the stannery. I remember how pathetic Ye stans sounded justifying that unfinished mid known as Donda 2 talm about "he's gonna finish it up and make a classic" lol.

It was promoted as "Old Drake"

    Not retirement album

He said he was taking a break when the album premiered on release night

People are going overboard on these threads though TBH

True. I got the 2 mixed up.

Either way, I think Drake needs to let go of trying to bring back the "old Drake" and just drop a quality cohesive project like he sorta did with HNVM.

He damn near used the same marketing for the early stages of CLB. I remember him doing interviews in early 2021 saying that CLB was going to remind people of Take Care.
