I’m pondering on having this done. I’m aware this tries to display much of your genetic layout based on the bio project using their codes. But I’m trying to find out how accurate they are/exactly what they do to this information after agreeing to it?

No it’s not. DNA tests are nothing more than genetic astrology

    ofc

  • It’s not worth it imo. I was gonna do it but I don’t trust it plus it wouldn’t change my life at all if I found out that I was %18 Congolese.

Read a story on some woman finding out her dad is not her dad through her 23andme, because her mom had an affair with the neighbour.

These also have a dangerous element of racial essentialism to them as well.

If any of your family members give theirs it’s essentially the same as you giving yours. There’s no hope

    Can you elaborate on this

A big part of the selling point of 23andme is trying to identify your ethnic makeup, by identifying genetic markers that are common to certain populations of people. In a way it forces the idea that race is goes beyond a being a social construct, and tries portray them as being easily definable through DNA.

If you’re gonna do it (assuming you’re black) do the African ancestry one, not 23andme. From what I heard AfricanAncestry gives you a specific break down of what tribe you’re from not just the general country.

    Yeah they’re accurate
