Overall I listen to whatever I like though as long as it sounds good I probably won’t look too far into it

Like i like Yeat's music but im not taking the nigga seriously cause he be talking about killing s*** when the nigga most likely grew up in the burbs

I always think about that interview Frank did a couple years ago where he was talking about how too many people interpret, judge, and assume that music is always autobiographical, when in reality it’s just like any other medium of art where it doesn’t have to be true to be considered good.

Music is the only main form of art where it’s expected that the artist is singing / rapping about something they actually lived through, and this is especially the case with rap / rap fans more than any other genre.

I get that lyricism in rap is heavily based and critiqued around honesty, but I think people shouldn’t expect everything a rapper says to be truth, and they shouldn’t be disappointed or criticize the artist negatively if they find out it isn’t.

Rappers should be allowed to have artistic freedom just like any other form of art.

I just feel like if you were just a regular middle class or upper middle class kid, and then you start rapping, and it’s mostly about how much money and clothes you have… it’s a steep hill to get me to care and be invested in that narrative.

    but everyone’s different ig

also if you rapping about the struggles of poor folks and/or gangster s***, but didn’t live it, you’ll probably resort to cliché s*** at best and damaging stereotypes at worst.
