Considering everything we're recommended to watch and listen to is decided by an algorithm?
Yes. AI-mediated algorithms create cycles of addictive consumption that destroy your attention span and creative energy. There is a biological basis for this, and the evidence is all around you.

so technically we're already living in the matrix
We're getting there, just not not in the ways people typically think of when we talk about AI controlling us
also check out lex fridman's podcast
yeah I just watched this it's what made me make this thread lol, really crazy conversation
have you guys seen those new digital influencers? they're literally making fake people to worship
also considering society basically went to s*** when facebook and stuff started getting more popular with boomers what if A.I. is intentionally destabilizing society
yeah I just watched this it's what made me make this thread lol, really crazy conversation
have you listened to any of Lex Fridman's podcast? really good and welll-informed version of JRE by someone who actually understands complex concepts. he talks about this stuff a lot since he's like an AI researcher primarily

maybe the Elon Musk ones w/ Fridman? They discuss AI a lot in those.

Elon Musk is more of a popsci spokesperson when it comes to AI.

for sure that sounds perfect thank you
I been thinking really hard about elon's quote "be careful of the man who worships an A.I. God" and after listening to this podcast it's really got me thinking like there much be some scientist out there right now thinking that A.I. is basically the next logical step in human evolution and would gladly help robots annihilate humans because they see us as "futile" lol

I guess. I'd recommend that a person just reads a book by someone who actually knows what they're talking though (i.e. not elon musk)
Fridman seems qualified but there's still a marked distinction between concrete application (actually implementing a computer vision system or something like that) and the theoretical issues that people like OP are asking about.
For the latter it's better to look into people like tegmark, bostrom, etc.

yeah I'd agree with that, i do think there's some degree of merit though for people like Musk (not in the reddit circlejerk way) just from an entry level if you care more about theory and not as much about technical details
