I feel like this is the medium where theatre kids run into naturally. It's a weird hodge podge of western media being thick coated with layers of anime influence.
ktt the wrong demographic to ask these questions
I thought this was gonna be about when girls posted nudes of themselves back in the day

I just wanted a general discussion because I've been seeing this target audience thrive and move in mass from one show to the next from the past decade.
The starting point of this fandom base in my life was probably from Avatar. Then it ignited again with Adventure Time then it ballooned when these two shows dropped.
Adventure Time is one of the greatest animated shows of all time, I remember as a kid being in love with the late 90s/early 2000s cartoons, Ed, Edd, n Eddy was a classic, then finding that the mid-late 2000s stuff just wasn't as interesting, then suddenly the early 2010s come along with this insane renaissance of animated shows, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, it was a great time to be a kid, and the online communities added to the excitement and nystery of the whole thing, I was asking Adventure Time storyboard artists questions on Formspring and stuff
I remember showing my dad Simon & Marcy and he was blown away by the depth of emotion in the episode, that show was really something special, I haven't kept up with 'Tumblr core' animated stuff much in recent years (Steven Universe is still a new show in my mind lmao) but those few years at the start of the last decade will always hold a place in my heart
how is this tumblr core
tumblr core is like.. rugrats and emo quotes
Click on the trailers of all the shows above.
They all have this specific type of "over acting animated voice"
Theatre style dramatic acting between one or two characters
Anime influence at a surface level being slapped into the art style or writing
Love musicals or singing pieces
Shows with a hard on for lore/world building
This is like the original tumblr core fandom that was created in that site.
Being emo existed before Tumblr

i can see it with Stephen Universe yeah
This is an… interesting observation
I think you’re right
The Viziepop stuff makes blood boil tbh
I liked gravity falls, Steven universe, and I guess some adventure time
Does Bojack count? Or uncle grandpa, gumball, etc
Are they too old to consider chowder and flapjack this?
Yes
As a kid I thought tumblr core was cringe now I have a different level of appreciation for it
... I think those are for children?
Yes, but a large amount of the audience for these shows have adults fueling the fandom/marketing word of mouth content out there

I don't think we should encourage that

Fine line, but some of those shows don't fit the group of shows above besides being animation or aimed at kids.
Most of those are simple kids shows who don't try to world build or cater to their audience.
Bojack is well rounded that any normie/general populace can enjoy it.
I always thought these were for over-expressive twitter/discord kids and regressive adults.
I don't think we should encourage that
It's audience that exists from the 2000s who grew up on cartoons and anime. They'll be here for a while.
It's 50/50
I like more established cartoons like Gravity falls, Adventure time, Owl House. Also, the fanbases of shows like Helluva boss are really weird, though I liked the digital circus pilot
yeah… idk, like I’m sure some of those cartoons are great and entertaining - after all they’re made BY ADULTS so it’s not wild to assume they can be enjoyed by adults/non-kids and because they’re artists I’m sure they at least have some passion for the craft.
So I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with watching them as an adult.
But I think some people just get obsessive and let it consume them. And it’s that group of people that create a stereotype and the stigma around those shows.
