I was watching Jadakiss talk about pop smoke and he said he’s seen more young artists die in the last 2 years than the rest of his career. Jadakiss never lied in his life.

The streaming era makes room for anyone to make anything with no need for backing. This led to way more artists blowing up which meant shorter shelf life. Spotify was around for years as a method of distribution but it wasn’t until around 2015 when Apple launched that streaming became basically mandatory. That means no real need for distribution.

More artists blowing up = more chance for recklessness/error/tragedy

Artists don’t have to slave for record labels anymore and the music listeners decide who is popping and who’s not = artists die

Streaming and social media democratized the music business and artists aren’t dependent on corporate overlords anymore.

We should be really happy about that.

Streaming is literally the most accurate representation of who makes the most enjoyable music

More artists are able to infiltrate and blow up = bigger pool of people = more chance got bad things happening. Everyone isn’t ready all the time. There’s more people not ready and getting it now than ever
