Lowkey wish that game was more political. It’s fairly political but it’s like very surface level with the types of conflicts. Like I’d love to see a lot more tension between various races in those games and like actual options to push back against a lot of the stereotypes that exist about each race and s***.

Most of the politics were like about who controlled what and how each faction fit into the scope of that but idk I could see it being a lot more fleshed out in other games. Like I’d love to see a game centered around conflict and not like Daedras or Dragons or s*** like that (this may have already happened though to be fair since I’ve never played the older ones).

If this is just suspicion, I don't think her concerns are entirely baseless. In the hypothetical event of an alien alliance, there would be some truth in the priority of preservation when it comes to ones species. There are factors they do not take into account here such as any history of alliances of species in question, loyalty to said alliances, and overall reputation. Still, she's putting her species before any aliens, and as a human I can't 100% disprove that.

Honestly, this thread is kind of ridiculous. Its silly to approach specism with the same light as racism. We know nothing about alien species and would be naïve as a child to blindly confide in them, thats like asking to be had.

Breh you are literally traveling with a ton of different species over the course of the game who are relatively normal people to an extent and are not inherently different in their content and character. We know plenty of the species in the alliance. She clearly has a prejudice what are you talking about?

That humans first mentality mirrors this "America first" "white lives matter" type of mantras that we see today.

This "let's not mix or have an alliance with them we need to preserve our race/species" is not very far removed from the mentalities toward racism

I've never played this game so I don't know the entire context of the story. If that is the case, is this the only race she is "prejudiced" against, or is she like this with all nonhumans? And just because you can socialize and share a drink with another species doesn't mean you know what is in their heart.

Even if in this portrayal of aliens there is a common standard of morals and values across all species, among them would be survival (or again, preservation) of ones-kind. But if she is willing to work with them, that is enough. There is always room for growth and it would be meaningful to develop in a way where she learns to trust them (although I don't know if that's the case here).

Put it this way, if there is always civil conflict as we can see in alliances among our own species, you can be certain to expect conflict and some degree of foul play in an alliance with alien-kind. That's the main point I'm trying to make. In the event of a pact with aliens, fact is that characters like her WILL exist, and it would be dishonest of the writers to pretend they would not or exempt them for being "distasteful", even if it is. Its all the better for exploring those things imo.

And yes you can draw some parallels of specism to racism because the ideas are similar. But it would be a lousy b******ization of the writers intention to ignore the actual meaning of each, and circumstances that the ideas are met under. You must be able to draw distinctions between the two. This inability to differentiate and draw immediate parallels between them are why we cannot engage these topics in nuanced ways, lest they are spelled out in painstaking detail, letter by letter, when that should not be necessary, or simplified to the most common consensus that "hey! racism is bad!!", which is about as tasteless and bland as it sounds.

Its should be obvious nobody is vouching for racism, so your compelling must to confuse them is moot.

I was speaking in a broader sense than just the game. Clearly the narrative wasn't going for that type of story but I'm saying it is an understandable train of thought for a person with little to no experience with other species to have, I never even alluded to it being correct, or Sheppard being wrong in his wisdom to trust them.
