I watched the whole season and it did have some laughs but overall...pretty cornball n i prolly won’t watch again, but i am wondering if this show is supposed to be taken seriously.

For example, Rashida Jones plays a biracial woman who’s sole purpose on the show is to prove how black she is. Is that supposed to be funny? Are the writers making a joke of her explaining how people act like this or are we supposed to agree and sympathize for her? It doesn’t seem right. Am i supposed to be sad for someone that has more privilege than me due to her skin tone?

it is when a mixed person acts like their life is so hard. that’s not funny to me, that’s annoying. if it was satire it’d make more sense to me why the show is the way it is. it seems super dramatic which is why i thought it could be. if it isn’t satire then, this isn’t a great show. People will watch this and get the wrong idea about issues in black families. They hit some on the nail but his wife is not a great character

pretty sure it’s supposed to be satire/comedic effect or whatever

I get why someone would think this show is supposed to be taken more seriously cause they throw in all those black history lessons and try to relate it to what’s going on in the show but I feel like that was the worst part of the show. Seemed very lazy/wasn’t well done imo. If you just take it as a richer blacker modern family type show it gets the job done imo.

also pretty sure most ppl aren’t watching this and thinking this is how most black family ares in America cause this isn’t even a regular/relatable family regardless of race cause it’s portraying an exaggerated version of Kenya’s family/life who is worth almost 100 million dollars. Nothing about this family screams avg (black) American household.

there’s actually been a lot of criticism of the show on twitter and one of the writers for the show addresses that here

    podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-long-gone/id1503346367?i=1000474683300

he speaks about all the criticism from “woke twitter” and claps back
starts at 1:04:10 (if you want to listen to s*** he said before then start around 1:02:00)
