Yeah Drake just makes whatever he wants and it sells. One Dance, Nice For What or Hotline Bling by anyone else would have flopped. He gets flack for crossing genres but they'd complain if he just made the same safe music over and over again. He did all those numbers without critic bait too.
Global superstar Bruno Mars... a Legend?
Nah let's reserve the Legend title to random rappers and local acts.
He's what Phil Collins was. An inoffensive radio artist for white people that generated various hugely known hits that will be played at weddings and family receptions for a long time. His music was liked by 12 year olds and 50 year olds.
However you see him is basically what Bruno is. Same with Ed Sheeran too.
phil collins was in genesis tho
phil collins was in genesis tho
We talking about solo Phil Collins.
Interesting take about Ed.
His breakthrough single was about a woman coked up and resorting to prostitution.
He’s arguably the best songwriter of a mainstream act last decade.
He makes crowd pleasing music undoubtably though
mad songwriters got respect for ed, they know what he’s about.
not a fan of his music but he’s a talented guy with pop appeal, i can’t be mad at that
We talking about solo Phil Collins.
his work with genesis can’t be ignored if we talking about legend status

Not accurate. Phil is a legend for sure. He is seen as one of the best drummers of all time.

Lemme rephrase:
Bruno Mars is to current music what Phil Collins was in the 80s.
Make sense? Bruno has tons of hits and he's even a great performer but he has little cultural impact. He does not get much discussion in pop culture. He doesn't make media headlines and news the way MJ, Madonna, etc did at their height of fame. Not even as much as Beyonce, Gaga (in her prime), Kanye, Drake, hell even Cardi B.
He didn't cause any controversies, break any boundaries, the world never stopped when he dropped music, etc.
Most of his legacy is just making background music radio hits like Ed Sheeran/Lionel Richie/every other male pop artist who made a bunch of annoying ballads.
I don't think people have that sense that "Bruno Mars defined my time culturally" like with some artists.

By that metric Drake is the only legend in the past decade.

mmm i see what you’re saying. i assumed u was saying phil collins was solely a “safe radio pop” artist which i just can’t agree with.
i’m still not sure if i’m with you on the idea that phil collins wasn’t discussed in pop culture. between samples and urban legends , in the air tonight def is more than just a successful pop song.
lots of artists look up to phil’s talent as a songwriter. tons of ppl have gone on record to say this. i’m not sure if many ppl go farther than “i love bruno’s music”
maybe it’s just agree to disagree
People wanna call all these same song ass rappers a legend then hell yes Bruno is a legend
If he’s like Phil Collins then he’s absolutely a legend.
this lol
By that metric Drake is the only legend in the past decade.
Kendrick, Taylor Swift, Weeknd, and some others have reached levels to where if they drop music it's an event and they are actively a discussion in pop culture constantly. I do think Kendrick/Weeknd are low profile outside of music tho.
But yeah, at the end of the day, "legend" will always be opinionated. I do think to many ppl Bruno will be a legend, because he has many timeless hits and that's enough for many people. Just like with Ed Sheeran even if plenty of us think he's a joke.
Legend?
Idk yet
Definitely an icon in his generation though
First you claim that Drake has achieved tremendous sales successes and held onto his Aubristic integrity, unlike Bruno Mars and other pop acts who have to intentionally cater to the masses. Now you're saying Drake pads his albums to give fans more music, not because he releases the albums he wants to i.e intentionally catering to the masses
