during class while my teacher was discussing if radio is still relevant, he mentioned that the best chance at getting your music as a independent artist on radio is by blowing up on college radio which took me outta the loop cuz i was like "people actually use that". so for college/uni age ppl like me do yall think uni radio is a relevant platform this decade or nah?

Depends, some schools have a decent sized culture around it, others don't.

I think that they're def not as "important" as they were pre internet but still really important to helping smaller artists

  • Oct 4, 2022

Your teacher is probably super old school but there really isn't any point in getting on radio in 2022. Playlists are the modern day radio

  • Oct 4, 2022

if im gonna listen to the radio, it's usually college radio. there's a ton of variety for everybody and the DJs know their s***, plus it's a great way to discover some lost gems or songs you barely hear on the radio

If your school has a good music scene and decent size yes.

Some schools care more about it than others. My Alma mater didn't do much. But I know of schools that do live performances of local artists and put em up on YouTube

  • This used to actually be correct.

It's definitely irrelevant as hell now and your teacher showed their age.

  • Oct 4, 2022

nah nobody really listens to radio anymore. you're better off just uploading songs to dsps and marketing on every social media app

  • My homie used to run one at UCSC and I’d tune in bc he really knows his stuff & would play a ton of underground house/dnb/garage/techno

If the hosts have taste, it’s no different than peeping a playlist from a friend
