it was panned by pitchfork only

Nah, Stereogum kinda s***ted on it too.

Tom Brehian is still one of the best Hip Hop journalists in the game.

It’s like pity listens at this point + established small fanbase
I’ll get back to you on his second week streams tomorrow

Nah Sean is like one of 6 or 7 rappers that can do 100k+ first week. People don’t wanna count him as a heavy weight in this game but he is

Come on man, pity listens? Sean is a well established artist. If anything blame the current stagnation of the consumers, not the artist.

That’s why it’s like pity lol
Like he’s been hot before, gotta at least give this a listen

dont think it was a bad rollout at all

  • Sep 18, 2020

As a Big Sean fan for a decade I thought the album was way too long and got bored listening at times. Still fw seeing him selling well first week tho

So it sold well enough to debut number one without a hit single like he typically has leading up to albums and its acknowledged in the thread that his fanbase is enjoying it. Does bad reviews from critics and other rap fans that already didn’t like him really matter?

The album has been panned critically.

Only diehard Big Sean fans really f*** with it.

    Has it really tho?

We'll see how good it does week 2.
I see people talking like Sean is a top tier artist.

This doesnt feel like a rollout from an A lister.

  • Sep 18, 2020

Sean was on ESPN today doing an interview and his songs are playing during commercials, guess he is doing a lot of promo after

  • Sep 18, 2020

Nigga became so boring and average after 2016. Sean a cool dude his music just mid but people will still listen cause Sean is a/was popular artist in the game

couldn't find a review but saw this

and the song where Sean and No ID flip the same bit of the Akira Ifukube Godzilla score that Pharaohe Monch already flipped on “Simon Says.”

nah that godzilla scores been sampled tons of times all types of artists now but bringing it up and ignoring that it's an homage to detroit techno is missing the mark.

but it's at a 71 on metacritic, only 8 reviews. fantano said 7/10 best sean album. CoS gave it a 8.3. It's been generally positive, good not great. classic sean

tbh i liked them back in the day for finding music outside of hip hop. hip hop took over and they shifted and it just didn't work.

Anyway it’s Childish Gambino self sabotaging the momentum he built up by releasing his likely final album with a blank white cover and no song titles
