Rap is having a new Renaissance, what does this pencil pusher know past spotify data...
@sentient_sherm_bag my good brother in Christ how is the music going 4u?
Been in a real rut lately my good Phlegm, I can't lie to you - let my free Logic Pro trial expire and f***ed up my finances 😔
But I'm redoing my whole setup tonight, trying to kick things back into gear and bring the spark back. What about you big dog?
Anyways
These are businessmen, label heads, CEO’s, shareholders saying this
Economic growth has nothing to do with the artistic state of the genre. Labels are just mad that’s trusts are getting wiser and won’t let themselves get raped by their contracts
Lmao this facts to a certain extent tho
Now you know why you got rappers working with Spanish artists the hip hop wave just opened for them on a mainstream level like in like the last 3 years the US don’t really f*** with rap like that anymore way to much trash being put out also outside the US they only know what we show them so the SoundCloud trash people usually listen to here doesn’t connect over there just the Lil Baby type artists
And because of that you will see a massive decline in “mainstream” rap, mainstream wing rappers who are being label-pushed into radios, playlists, etc
And KTT can moan and groan all it wants but these artists from the early 2010’s only happened to go the way they did because they were able to take advantage of labels. There’s very little room to do that anymore
Go on the ground and you will see a rich, diverse underground with dedicated fanbases and massive waves among the youth.
even if it’s declining I don’t see anything it replacing it at least in the near future

I have a theory that the music industry has been positioning house music to the forefront
Don’t think it’s a coincidence that some of the biggest stars have dropped house albums and the rising stardom of Fred again all happen in the same year
mid steppers underperforming should tell you enough
You talking about the Platinum selling classic Mr Moral and The Big Steppers?
even if it’s declining I don’t see anything it replacing it at least in the near future
yeah the thing is even if rap was declining it’s permeated so much of modern music that I don’t think it matters
rock is still dead and modern pop is so rap leaning at this point. this kinda feel like an issue with music as a whole tbh
House/Dance about to run the decade and the underground rap scene will buzz this decade. I'm in for another movement in rap incoming
the amount of country songs currently in the Hot 100 is basically equal to the amount of hip hop songs
And because of that you will see a massive decline in “mainstream” rap, mainstream wing rappers who are being label-pushed into radios, playlists, etc

Blogs/Tumblr played a huge part in that. The labels could not keep up with Counterculture then and didnt until the late part of the decade. That will happen come mid to the end of this one too

1 million in 5 months isn't a high bar for Kendrick he a huge artist.

this is a good point, i think hip hop is at the point where so much pop, etc. has significant hip hop influence. but they aren't as much hip hop as the other thing so they don't (and shouldn't) get called hip hop. and now we see a lot of dance music that definitely has hip hop in its DNA plus stars like Bad Bunny.
kinda reminds me of what happened with rock at a certain point in its popularity too, other genres like pop and country (ie Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, tons of country) adopted significant rock elements but more "pure" rock declined commercially. idk if hip hop will necessarily be in the same situation in say 2040 but it's interesting to think about

Ehhh house music has always been popular especially in Europe but we already had the electro house craze of early 2010s
I would love to see it tho, Fred again popularity kinda baffles me. I like him but I wish they gave love to other artists in his field

it was around this time a decade ago EDM pop showed up everywhere so it’s possible

Mr. Morale my most listened to album this year. It’s a classic and will get its flowers in a few years
He's bigger
Dedication not admitting that
