pick up a little taoist and stoic philosophy and you'll see this is more or less 'the way'

your thoughts and actions are the only things you actually have complete control over. it doesnt make rational sense to focus on anything else (big can of worms there). this isnt to say you should become a bateman tier narcissist or w/e, but putting yourself first is certainly not a bad thing to do

cant really help others effectively if you're overextended and bursting at the seams

Need to peep the thread fr

Gotta help yourself before you help others. Unless you’re like a multimillionaire already I think it’s ok. That being said I find helping others helps me personally too

    That’s real

The people who say you should help others are usually the most selfish mfers on the planet

People will tell you you’re wrong for this but you’re not. The day to day problems and stress I feel takes up majority of my mental space and energy, I really can’t be assed to care about things that aren’t directly affecting me because I have too much that already is.

It's "selfish", but it doesn't have to be the negative connotation of selfishness that we're accustomed too.

Hit the mark on the head there fam.

    Sure, that

But it's also completely ignorant and aloof to believe that things outside of your own immediate bubble don't effect you greatly. Especially if you happen to be American I'd go so far as to say it's irresponsible to not at the very least attempt to he educated.

You know, originally I was going to argue this point, though you not wrong in the sense of...i would like to think it's better to not know the s*** that's out of your control,, yet on the other hand with all the disinformation going around, simply sharing an inaccurate article can have a ripple effect in our community that we don't even process.

Lmao that’s not selfish at all

  • You cant help others if you can help yurself,
    think about that.

  • Nov 18, 2022

Most people are already like this

  • Nov 18, 2022

idk, don't care either. i'm liable to off myself any minute i got bigger immediate issues at hand than what the world and others i don't know go thru or got goin on. i can only care about me n the ppl in my world

  • Nov 18, 2022

You’re not obligated to make the worlds problems your own. Enjoy your life. There were problems before you lived and there will be more problems after you die

  • Nov 18, 2022

Sometimes you just need to take some time off and be completely selfish for a bit

  • Nov 18, 2022

On this wave HEAVY right now. Only care about myself and fam.

Getting ripped as possible along with getting rich as possible is all I'm worried about.

Everybody else can work on saving the world. I'm over all that s*** b.

    Yes

Yes you are. Through education and understanding, character and morals on a micro level will change as well, causing selflessness that will ultimately lead to a more rewarding life (which is ironic considering being selfish and worrying about one's own bubble is a less rewarding life).

How will it lead to a more rewarding life? That's kind of a circuitous argument, that being selfless is good because it cultivates selflessness

  • Nov 18, 2022

If you're always trying to help people that don't want to be helped, for instance, at a certain point the moral fulfillment you get from it might be overtaken by a greater despair and sense of pointlessness than if you stopped trying
