I know kanye has been leaning more and more into making more christian music but he seems like an outlier even more so than he was at his peak for rap. Am I just hearing the worst representation of it when I do hear it? Or is the genre mostly just people redoing each others songs along with 80 percent of the songs having the same progression.
I wouldn’t know i don’t listen to it unless I’m at church
S*** go crazy at church
Jesus Is Born best album of 2019
It has a conservative base so their less likely to want innovation I will say Kanye past few records have been transformative for the genre imo in terms what gospel can be.
I remember going on an hour long drive by myself and putting on Jesus is Born
S*** was a cleansing experience I was driving on a cloud, just singing
Alot of people treat gospel music as a genre instead of just music about god and it really limits what type of things get made.
It's partly why it's alot people ITT loving Jesus Is Born but it was weaker to me vs Jesus Is King. I've never heard gospel like "On God" but I've heard everything on Jesus Is Born before.

Jesus in kings gospel songs were way better than the ones on donda. Speaking as a non Stan and someone who grew up around that type of music. But my taste is w/e

Where u based op? I have some questions. N there’s a gospel subreddit where u will probably get a more fruitful discussion! Also ask the people around u/family. I’m gonna sit on ur question n get back 2 u. I’m not that tapped in tho rly so please take it with a .000001 of a grain of salt

Im from alabama so I definitely have heard my fair share of gospel growing up in the church. Whenever I visit family( a lot of older relatives listen strictly to just gospel) It always sounds the same to me and they never seem to be that familiar with who is singing the songs. Its a little jarring for me seeing as if I listen to a song I usually can make a good guess on who is on it even if I havent heard it before.
Donda out now
Thats kinda the point is kanye that far ahead of the genre to where its that apparent. We already know kanye is gonna come with something creative when he does a different genre.
