I interviewed Bilal yesterday and he dropped that in the interview. Saying that he’s creating super ideas like wanting to hear Sun Ra Meets Jimi Hendrix. Has he announced this?
Also here’s him speaking about it at 17:50
interesting
love madlib but idk how i feel about him using AI
Me and Bilal was having a very anti AI convo lmao so the way we were talking about Madlib using it seems more like a Tool vs using it as a crutch. Ion think Madlib finna use it in a nasty way just by the way Bilal phrases it
AI is evil until my dusty goat does it
Always knew this is how it would become normalized

i think its more like using AI for inspiration as opposed to just using whatever slop it produces. questionable maybe but far from the worst

I’m assuming he’s probably using A.I to generate royalty free samples that he will chop up and give his own spin.

Yeah that’s what it sounds like. He’s feeding AI ideas to create sounds in the style of certain artists and he’s going to curate it and put his own spin to it in a Jazzy element
If there was anyone on the planet I would trust to do something good with AI and music, it would be goddamn Madlib

Like I said earlier, me and Bilal was s***ting on how AI has been used in music recently so I’m very interested to see how it turns out
A.I. is a sampler’s wet dream
Folks are too quick to judge, it’s changed the sampling game indefinitely
Nah you have every right to feel that way and I share the same sentiment. It’s a tragedy that artists aren’t being fairly compensated for what’s essentially been large-scale pillaging of humanity’s creative history
I also just think that the genie is out of the bottle and that there are a lot of legitimately creative ways to use these tools, to the point where I see usage of it as no less ethical then making a record with an uncleared sample
I think there’s a difference between that kind of usage (i.e. what Madlib is presumably doing) & just straight up typing a text prompt to generate audio slop
