I’d argue 1999/Purple Rain did that. Everybody wanted to copy that Minneapolis Sound with the Linn drums and Oberheim synths.
Yep that Minnesota sound led to the creation of new jack swing.
Teddy Riley said that himself he was inspired by it.
I think prince has did more for black music than MJ has..
the nigga made 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O’ The Times in what? like a three four year time span?
and y’all are putting him there with KANYE?

NOT TO MENTION HIS SELF TITLED
I dont get why kanye cant be compared to any older artist. Kanye has 6 classics and is one of the most influential artists of all time, he's a legend and should be compared to acts such as prince or bowie. They're not untouchable
With that said, i prefer kanye but I also love prince. Sing o the times and 1999 are some of my favorite albums of all time
I’ve never gotten into Prince, and I was born in 92. It’s just not for me. I’ve never even got into that movie he was in because it’s all just too eclectic. Y’all can have that.
I don’t think it’s safe.
yea. not safe but i feel like you could make an argument
Based on the final product, yeah
Kanye is literally nowhere near Prince’s level.
You’ve never listened to prince
Why are people acting like it's such a hot take to think Kanye's on the level of Prince
Kanye's legend status was solidified years ago he's absolutely in the conversation
Yes
Kanye West is the greatest and most influential artist of all time.
this is why i cant take ye stans seriously
"most influential of all time"
listen to more music!
