Title. I've been wanting to build one for a long ass time and never really committed because I haven't had the money/have been moving around a lot the past couple years, but I just got my first big job offer and I'm in a more stable spot now so I was thinking of investing in a new computer. My 2012 Macbook I got secondhand a few years ago has been wheezing for a minute now and the s*** I'm doing in school (CE) is just getting way too demanding for this computer. Ideally I want to dual boot a Linux/PC or Linux/Hackintosh machine since some of the s*** I do is more convenient within Linux and I'm pretty interested in starting to develop/play more games on PC once I get a better machine. Should I hold off or should I go for it? If so, I'm looking for some advice where to start given today's prices.

I say wait until the RTX 4090 etc. and the Intel i9 13900K/13900KS is out and then start building that PC... So wait until late 2022 famo

It's not going to be any easier when the next series comes. I'm in favor of get what you can.
Do it now
If you know where to look you can find good parts for decent prices
U dont need the most high end s*** to play new games
Tbh just buy parts off aliexpress
new stuff is expensive asl
At minimum you need
6 core cpu
4GB VRAM
16GB RAM

I feel you... But shouldn't it be possible for him to still get the stuff he wants if he's fast enough? If not... Well the i9 12900K or i9 12900KS is good too and a RTX 3080 Ti is good too as well
prebuilts are actually cheaper than building them yourself
i bought an ibuypower with a 2080 super and ryzen 5600x for $1200 last year. the 2080 super still goes for at least $800 by itself

there is a concern with the rest of the systems parts being cheap quality and potentially crapping out but i mean it’s not really a common thing so you’ll be alright

Best time was during the very beginning of the pandemic honestly. Everything is super expensive now.

If you can afford it, go for it. I built a 3080 build a few weeks ago and haven't looked back
Fun experience for my first time building, and my s*** look sexy as f***
