Cole was like Jay Z’s first signee to the new Roc which made him a big thing and basically said “Ok Jay Z chose the nigga to be the next big thing in rap”. He turns out to be one of 3 mfs to run his generation

Over the years there have been plenty of cases (has there really tho?) of acts coming out and being marketed as the next but fizzling out. So is Cole literally the only one of the last 20 years to substantiate the claims? What say yall KTT

Wouldn’t really say he ran a generation, he’s just kind of been there and after 10 years he anointed himself as some elder statesman of rap.

He walks around like a Bill Russell without the 11 rings

All of the “big 3” did this. Drake, Kendrick, and Cole.

Kendrick and Drake did it more undeniably if we’re being honest but Cole still did it too. People will act like he didn’t though.

  • 2014 FHD was him capitalizing on his potential fully when he was getting feats on ye loosies and a mid HOV album back in ‘09, if that’s you being anointed it shouldn’t take 5 years to drop your first (debatable) classic if no one else capitalized on their potential as much as you like op sayin

i fw cole’s early mixtapes and some of SS and BS but this is the dumbest f***ing op i’ve read in a minute

You say this like J Cole’s last classic album (FHD) didn’t outsell and receive more acclaim than Drake’s last classic album (IYRTITL). He’s earned his spot but yall gonna keep hating on J Cole for whatever reason

Cole did it first and no one really believed Drake would last. Kendrick is right tho

How different does Drakes career look if Wayne is out of jail and thus stunting Drakes growth vs him being away and allowing Drake to do all the mainstream feats he’d do otherwise

How do you define “did it” when was it “done”? Drake certainly cemented himself earlier. Cole didn’t really do it once he hit the mainstream until FHD I’d say.

People definitely expected drake to last. Once so far gone was out and he had all the buzz with that and YM… People had some side eye for both drake and j cole after their first albums dropped but it didn’t hurt them any.

lol you are smoking crack if you think drakes career would have went any different regardless. Wayne won a bidding war for drake at the time. He was already on his way
