I’m not, I’ve said multiple times that they’re on two different planes

My point is that their current gap isn’t as far as y’all think

Yes it is lol. Jack Harlow isn’t even close to Youngboy or polo g or Rod wave level but you think the gap between him and baby is closer than we think?

    Oh yeah for sure,

Was just saying I don’t think he can reach his peak unless he takes a page out of Durk/Baby/YoungBoy/Rodwave book

That pain rap is the wave

Yeah, that's true. Minus it being the wave, it's the height of artistry as a rapper. Every great rapper can tap into varying levels of pain and make great art out of it. The weakest rappers are the ones who can't do that.

Youngboy is bigger than all of these artists I have no idea why you included him in there

Von only had them cause he died and Durk had them cause Drake 🤣🤣

I agree. White people are able to reach people that black rappers like Durk n Von wouldn't. Lots of people playing Drake don't even like rap.

Also another point I haven’t seen mentioned is that he has no compelling backstory or life

Average white guy. Nothing interesting. I know that’s not technically musical but ow more than ever people develop a connection to thier favorite rapper(s)

Yeah, he doesn't really have a compelling backstory tbh.

It’s one song. Stop trying so hard to put this kid on lil baby’s level

He's just come off What's Poppin and Industry Baby hype too though

Baby's album will probably be bigger and he's a way better artist but Jack is getting more attention than most rappers rn

This thread gonna have me waiting for Jack album and when it dont do superstar numbers ima come in here to s*** on him and tbh thats not fair

Just cause ya made a false comparison between him and Lil Baby i shouldnt start hating on Jack for that

Ya did the same s*** with Yeat/Carti smh

No one is saying he's bigger or better than Lil Baby, though. We're just discussing Jack's career trajectory as it relates to Lil Baby's and if he can reach or surpass the heights Lil Baby has reached.

It's more than clear to everyone that as it stands right now, Lil Baby is ahead of him.

But again like I said the people that are actively playing Durk and Von I don’t think are checking for Jack Harlow like that

Also I disagree a lot with people saying he’s got the one up on Lil Baby because he’s white lol

Lets not fool ourselves, white people have the one up in almost every aspect of society, but hip hop is not one of them. White rappers gotta work twice as hard to get people to take them seriously, and even in that field Jack has a lot of work to do. That can easily be rectified if Jack DOES come with some real s*** this album, but we’ll see.

It's not exactly true but it's not false either. Yes, white rappers typically have to work hard to be taken seriously but they've also seen lots of success and it's not hard for them to gain a fan base. It's just that no white rapper has done it to the level Eminem has so whenever that comparison gets made, they all fall short and it seems like Eminem is the only white rapper who has done damage in the mainstream space when that's far from the truth.

Btw this “I dont really listen to but I really like _’s music” take isn’t exclusive to rap

People do that with pop and rock all the time. Look at how much love Paramore and Panic! At the Disco (2005) get from the hip hop community

Black people in the US are ~13% of the population. Do you think black consumers are what drove hip hop to being the biggest genre in popular music? Additionally, would any subset of the black demographic not checking for Jack Harlow impact him that much?

Were white people who don’t listen to rap the ones who made Super gremlin a top 5 billboard hit for like 2 months? Lol

Absolutely. White people are the biggest consumers of hip-hop and even more so for white rappers.

Agreed 100% but at the same time I feel like a lot of white rappers have a ceiling as to how far the reach before they become a novelty and onto the next one. Macklemore and G-Eazy careers only lasted like 5 years max lol. Jack could certainly fall into that hole, and it will be really easy for him to do that, but he can also break that cycle if he proves to be a true rapper.

Only because he has dropped like 5000 more songs than everybody else.

they might have to work harder to get the initial success/position/credibility but once they get to a point of having any mainstream success them being white helps them so much.

Maybe it's a little different now but I still think it works that way.

Yeah you’re 100% right but like I said to TGD I feel like white rappers fall out of mainstream spotlight a lot quicker than black rappers do because people just don’t take them seriously enough. Not that they should, because the pool of white rappers is really s***ty lol

super gremlin streams didn't come close to first class first day streams

Durk woulda got big regardless. he already had a big buzz in the urban market.

He just wasn't known by white people yet..
