Something I’ve noticed about many critically acclaimed rappers is that they have many songs that discuss race, politics, and/or black empowerment or struggle in America. Since Jesus Walks debuted, Kanye has been regarded as one of the foremost sociopolitical artists and his music & actions seemed to back that up.

Over a decade later, it is becoming increasingly clear that all those “woke” bars & songs were more likely written by rhymefest, consequence, cyhi the prince or some other GOOD music ghostwriter. Kanye’s early wokeness seems to be just a reflection of who he was around at that stage in his career. These days he is more likely to wear a MAGA hat, voice support for Donald Trump or promote Candace Owens book than say or do anything that actually helps the discussion on race, politics, and/or black empowerment or struggle in America.

This isn’t a thread to attack Kanye for his recent pandering to white supremacist personalities & ideologies. I acknowledge that he recently pledged to donate $2m to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery's Families. But my main question is this: Isn't it just weird that he was so pro-black in his early music/actions but is now mainly interested in using his large platform to sabotage the progress of black people and enrich himself personally?

These few questions are for Kanye fans: Do you care? Do you think Kanye being more vocal early in his career was a ploy to bait critics into positive reception? Do you think a big reason why he’s now a vocal right-wing advocate is to protect his own personal wealth?

I dont think Ye thinks about the critics at all when he releases music
they hated 808's when it was released.
also doesn't explain him saying George bush doesn't care about black ppl or other controversies he had. same guy who wrote TTW and All falls down. he also wrote Power.
ye honestly does what he wants but also hates being apart of the "trend"

He's an egotist with a victim complex who uses politics like fashion. It's about him. It's about not having to listen to anybody. Except for God, which he is. Fraudulent religion and politics.

Lol idk just like that part
It’s art take what you need from it. The artist life doesn’t necessarily have to align with it. If it benefits your life than it’s beneficial if not than life goes on

How is he not pro-black anymore? Have you listened to his recent interviews?

They always say that people are Democrats until they're not broke anymore; then they become Republican. I feel like that may play a part in his current party decision. However, I feel* like Kanye's ideologies have been the same throughout his whole career.

*I say feel because I obviously don't know the man personally, so basically everyone in this topic will be grasping at straws.

    Shut up, please.

OP is right and some of you Kanye stans are so brain dead and obsessed that you can’t see through legitimate criticism.

Kanye has shown (in recent years) that he will only speak up about sociopolitical issues when it directly affects him. At other times he won’t give a s***.
