I’m not assuming, I’m asking a question because a lot of white people I know tend to label TPAB as some tough listen that’s overly pro-black and political but most black people I know look at it as a regular great album because we grew up on that type of subject matter, not just in hip-hop but from blues and soul as well. It’s embedded in black American culture long before I got here.

So it’s not an assumption or even a negative thing it’s just an honest question and his lack of answer to that is very telling lol.

White people don't hate TPAB because it's overly pro-black and political, they're just connected enough in real life to see straight through it. Pandering surface level lyrics that people act like is some profound s***, it's not bad or wrong it's just regular. You can hear your uncle or some crackhead on the street saying the same stuff, so why put it in high regard? Kendrick isn't some philosopher or polymath or civil rights leader like his fans treat him, he's just a rapper chasing a check like everyone else, with that said the album sounds amazing.

maybe because your average crackhead on the street is not able to put it in words and make enjoyable music out of it, so that people who are not even directly affected can also get something out of it and maybe even understand the subject a little bit more.

a lesser rapper than kendrick would've failed with this album imo

Y'all don't get it, it's not about who gets the message, there isn't a message, it's autobiographical, it's about how he pulls off what he says, and he pulls it off spectacularly music-wise.

    Lol wtf

  • Kendrick and Kanye are nothing alike at all.

Kanye grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood and traveled the world as a kid.

Dude grew up with nice fly clothes and music equipment while taking trips out the country

Kendrick only had Compton that’s it.

    They the same 😂

    THAT PART lmao

TPAB only has two or three political or protest songs. For Free, Alright and The Blacker the Berry.

Literally the whole album is just Kendrick telling his personal story of struggling to handle fame post-GKMC and falling into alcoholism. That’s the most annoying part about these white kids on forums that hate it so much trying to s*** on it, it’s not even about what they try to force it to be about lmao.

Kanye being compared to a poor Compton kid.
Y’all bugging that boy lived a better life then almost every Rap artist ever

This dude traveled the world as a kid.
Tpab come from real life experiences.
    There’s no comparison.

He doesn't produce but he is a visionary who took a day from his adolesence and turned it into a whole classic album that made grown men tear up.

Cole was a basketball player and Drake was a TV star. Kendrick, on the other hand, was a shy 5'5 dude and while he def had some charisma, he was prob never the most popular or toughest dude among his peers.

His success story was as unlikely as Kanye's and I think we should all embrace them both, hip hop gives a platform to ppl with a beautiful mind to shine and affect ppl all over the world.

    very factual tbh

Man said white people are connected enough to call a black album pandering. Yikes 😬

It's autobiographical and contains messages. It's just the way he chooses to relay them is through his personal experiences. Which is how he manages to not come off preachy in his preaching. He's always considered himself a voice for those who can't express themselves like that

    Voodoo Randy

They will doubt Kendrick again and again and again but he will come through and give us a classic. Again and again and again.

Kendrick really the MJ of hip hop.

P.S Kendrick surpassed Ye long ago. You’ll never catch him dropping mid.

Lmao Kanye dropped his first mid album 14 years into his career. Kendrick has been in the game almost 10 years let’s see a bit no?

Kendrick is truly the only rapper currently doing it that’s on Kanye’s level as an artist when it comes to music, visuals, overall creative vision, etc

what level is this y'all keep referring to?

Tbh Kanye’s both a producer and rapper which gave him the ability to change things up a lot more in his music.
Kendrick Lamar works with what he has and is great at it, but he can probably only do so much tbh.

Kanye will always be the guy who made MBDTF. Kendrick will always be that guy who faked an interview with a dead man for the climax of his album.

that album was amazing man tf you talking about
