With pluggnb being as popular as it is producers are starting to combine the smooth 90s style melodies from this genre with actual 90s style drums instead of the typical trap plugg drums. combine it with melodic soft autotune vocals and you got a template people like drake and lil uzi could use as inspiration

with the recent nostalgia wave of the 80s I think this is the next step
Drake, Summer Walker, Hit-Boy have been doing this on their latest releases.

Summer walker is a different style to what I'm describing, and I don't remember drake hopping on these typa beats but hopefully he does it cuz he fw the underground
Does some of the production on Take Care - the most defining rnb/hiphop project of the last ten years - not fit the description of “modernized 90s style rnb production” in hiphop?
Like we already seen it lmao, plus every rnb artist and producer that took direct influence from it and is still going strong (ie Summer and her producers)
Brother... are you 14?
the way he stans Yeat and hates on Kendrick he must be
Feel like you’re a little late to this convo

great songs but they fall more into sampled 90s rnb songs with trap drums subgenre that Bryson does.
if you listen to the songs in the OP they sound super different to those songs.
Feel like you’re a little late to this convo
if anything lawsy resparked a interest in this style
hotel blew up like crazy I can see a wave similar to the 80s wave in 2020 with these beats

Casual music fans really have no idea about s*** lol
Had a friend who thought the drums in trap beats were played on a actual drum set
I'm almost at the point where I think "mainstream hip hop" is just synonymous with "trap" and it won't ever change

underground hip hop is trap too
It's not synonymous at all with underground trap though, like If you say underground hip hop a lot of people might immediately think billy woods

i could see how tbh. i've seen motherfuckers use their electronic drum set and load up the samples to the drumset and just play. I think it's pretty cool. but yeah your friend don't know s***.
