The young/new rappers cares more about fashion than the music, they care about trying to turn a big streamers audience into their fans.

Actually crazy i was just thinking about this, none of the Big 3 are fashion niggas 2 of them just finally got stylists when they could afford it and the other rocking a hoodie and gym shorts to his arena tour every night lmaoo

I really want us to discuss why we became so addicted to outfits and fashion and why it doesn’t mean anything to greatness in hiphop but we allowed it to be the determinant

…hence this over arching discourse of something being wrong with rap coming from so many different people loudly since 2023

    you’re almost there lol

seeing your edit: it absolutely does, thats the exact mentality he has, that mainstream rap fans cant digest cohesive intricate projects. Niggas loving mumble distortion rap so much that they agree with Lyor Cohen is crazy

ya cuz a lot of folks can’t catch up more at 6

the new room for older rappers and seeing aged in depth lyrical projects abstracting and morphing traditional old school hip hop in all these wild directions

The rapidly growing multitude of diverse underground scenes

The uk wave and the rise of international hip hop artists crossing over into the west

How noise and noise music has settled into the mainstream and how those textures r used

The pervasive electronic, grime, witch house etc influence in today’s beats

The various crews and corners of every subgenre

The death of monoculture and a formula for commercial success

How rapping as a vocal style has and is evolving in a post thug and carti world

The fall of the old guard and blog era archetype

The rise of self prods and queer artists having space in the genre

Intersection of hyperpop and electroclash even behind the scenes for a lot of newer acts

How persona and PR has radically changed in the Internet era

How labels have adapted post 2022-2023 in a a fundamentally different operating streaming era

    Etc

    I’m 21 bro lol

u don’t have to like everything I like that’s different from dismissing a whole entire era of art cuz one section of it that’s popular with a section of the youth does not appeal to you who is not that section of the youth

  • yall talk about the same s*** yall talked about every other year on KTT

who f***in who, who fell off, occasional beef, lawsuits/prison

yall never liked actually talking about music this place been lipstickalley lite for years

You being on here since 13 in 2019
means you might as well be 25 lmao
Im not dismissing anything, people like che carti are great if we look at them outside of rap context but that style of music pretty much takes rap out of rap lol. Its nothing left in that type of s*** that has any resemblance to actual rap music
And if you’re truly 21 then my nigga respectfully you only know 2014-2015 to now in rap. I dont want to be condescending but i literally dont have the words to be able to explain coming home to 106 and park daily or a pre social media forums only rap landscape or it being a hard line between artists like soulja boy and the g5 boyz and the actual top 10-15 rappers we took serious

But they r rapping it’s literally rap it’s just rly far from the rap you grew up on cuz genres evolve this is like a guy that listened to chuck berry saying the cure or swans is barely rock they r in the lineage of rap music they r in the genre. And there’s more not like that if u want it.

And ya Soulja was more influential than a lot of the “more serious artists” you prioritized.you can’t just dismiss voices younger than you such as me and youth exports just because they are less familiar to you. That feeling u had is dif from the feeling I have with what I like and what resonates w me growing up. Cuz it’s dif gens

Also yea I was 14 logged on here cuz I was a rly into music since 11 I was born into rap music and been making beats since 12 lol I used to read blank face first impressions ktt threads cuz it looked cool to see rhat

  • kendrick lamar vs. drake:

  • the most music discourse people read is apple music’s blurbs

most media consumers in america don’t read beyond what’s on social media and their ai chat bot

massive generalization / assumption but u get my point

  • New Drake being better than old Drake

  • Slings Chainsaw

No soulja boy was not more influential than squints and reads Jay Z Kanye West and Lil Wayne or even Gucci and Jeezy lmfaoo

Lmaoo that blind contrarianism against what you perceive to be traditional rap ethos is another thing why the divide between what happened before rap in 2015 and people who only know what happened in rap since Carti Yachty Uzi made it their whole gimmick to s*** on the traditional prior rap game (that up until them is what made them want to be rappers to begin with? Lmaoo)

You think that its just a generational shift to s*** on or not acknowledge or build upon what came before you when that literally only started with these 3 dumbass colorful dread niggas and to a lesser extent, soulja and Ice T
