a lot of white neurodivergent people conveniently find all non-white music "overstimulating", they won't eat non-white food because of "sensory issues", and their special interests are only ever typical white person things

He makes a good point but overstimulating is wrong word, it's more 'this isn't as easily accesable for a wide mainstream audience.' I feel this is why Gunna is so succesful as of recent, you know what you're getting - a nice melodic beat and a nice melodic triplet flow you can tune in and out of, you're not missing much if you miss any bars the same way you would listening to Jay Z. A lot of mainstream fans just listen to the actual music underneath too and less lyrics. I don't think it's a coincidence that the more commercially sucessful rap became the less lyrical it became.

  • Overstimulating makes it sound like autistic people are having meltdowns just by listening to rap

  • BRAVE

Taylor Swift is selling millions of more copies than her pop peers because she amassed a legion of fans who connect with her uniquely poetic and multi-layered lyrics in terms of references and entendres to her own celebrity and other pop culture works. Do you know how much context you need to connect to 2020s Taylor Swift lyrics to the point of fandom?

So I don’t wanna hear it

I'd argue though Taylor is unique that she appeals to both breadth (wide mainstream audiences) and depth (hardcore cult fans like you're referencing) - you can listen to Taylor while not doing a poetic a***ysis and still be a fan. A lot of rap is for it's own culture - you have to dumb down /tone down the subject matter to appeal to everyone.

Infantilization combined with theraphy speak at its best man
How f***ing dumb do you have be to get ‘overstimulated’ because of metaphors and slang?
Has this person heard of books or poetry?

Overstim is the wrong word what he's refering to is something being too unfamiliar and taking effort for most people to enjoy

Depends on what your listening, but I mean, if your playing your music loud as hell with the bass turned up to 10, any type of music is overstimulating. Your music is probably just too loud

Is listening to music from a different culture now overstimulating?
You can just listen to the beat, flow, cadence and enjoy the rythem without understanding every bar.

The man speaking is american. How are you in 2025 unfamiliar with “”hiphop culture”” after its been very present in american society for at least 30 years?

Its not overstimulating but it is unfamiliar for people that are outside that culture, it's still possible to enjoy it it just needs more effort and wanting to learn. I'm not referring to myself I'm referring to 13 year old Joanne from Boston

But son wanna say rap is overstimulating for the average listener...word.

  • I got the same issue with niggas who say some goofy s*** like "No rap before 12PM!" as if all of rap is just aggressive lyrics, violence, disrespect towards women, and loud bass beats...

I know what y'all type of niggas are...
