This whole top 3 convo especially between Kendrick Cole and Drake is purely driven by the hip-hop media. Its a joke because Drake is known for using ghostwriters which automatically eliminates him from any top rapper conversation.
This convo of Kendrick, Drake and Cole has existed since 2013 b
the first "big 3" i can remember was when people were comparing asher roth, charles hamilton, and b.o.b to eminem, ye, and andre 3000
💀💀

The big 3 convo? Yeah it was generated by hip-hop media cuz they always need posterboys

Yeah if minus input from fans and artists themselves
And the whole ranking of a top 5 to a top 3 to a top one since the 80s

not nearly as prevalent as it became in the last year
You niggas are either young af

Fair. I find the whole thing too restrictive and a bit silly.
Either way Drake's inclusion in there makes a mockery out of the whole concept

top 3 conversation? yes its been around forever
the big 3 conversation as in 'drake cole and kendrick are our big three rap artists that carried over the last decade and remain relevant today'? wasn't a thing the way it is a thing now until last year like I said

I mean sure but thats not my point
People do put Drake in there tho constantly
A big 3 is just the top 3 rappers of a decade that sell the most, have the most impact & have skill overall on average
Which is why its been Drake, Kendrick & Cole and then 3 are on average the most selling in order plus huge impact plus being able to balance "real rap" & "pop rap"
With HMS to Future, Travis & Rocky
Meek Mill used be in the convo and Krit as well, but yeah
Just like the decade prior its Wayne, Kanye & 50 Cent with HMs to Eminem, TI & Jay Z
Or the 90s of 2Pac, Biggie & Nas with HMs to DMX, Snoop Dogg & Andre 3000
Or the 80s of Ice Cube, Chuck D & Rakim with HMs to Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap & LL Cool J
More or less
2020s just been bad for mainstream, Rap is pretty much hitting its profit/popularity ceiling & we lost 2 years from Covid
2020s would have probably been XXXtentacion, Juice Wrld & Pop Smoke is they all didnt literally die s*** is sad we skipped a whole era

Where I live, we still bump Pop Smoke a lot. It's like he never died.

Not only that, top 3 is a convo for most things lmao not just rap

These guys were great but i see people say this a lot and think its farfetched to say the same things that plagued everyone else wouldnt have also got them. They could have started just making Mid music, no mainstream monoculture for them to be integrated into and people propping up their clones before theyve had their own full run
