Im telling you,KTT1 motherfuckers was really doing this s***. You could have a real discussion about fashion houses, where designers were going, what direction this designer was taking etc. That just isn't here anymore

Somewhere in here is a very sophisticated discussion on the philosophy of art and aesthetics in the present zeitgeist, the conditions are manifestly not the same as they were on ktt1

No, because it's from the same creator. Should've included that in the definition of an original.

My bad bro, im gonna save you asking more questions, cause it just comes off as being facetious --

So the point I was trying to highlight is that the more you begin to learn and look into how all these things are actually made, the more it begins to erase the distinction between 'real' and 'fake'. For example, youll find some items are not even all made even in the same country. This is why you have communities who will hype specific batches of items because they were made so and so, or more commonly, NOT made by so and so. But if it's all licensed and sold as the same product by one brand, are either of these less real than the other, even though there is a clear distinction between the two? People will argue ''theyre just slight differences, so it really doesn’t matter". But then you begin to look in further and find the source materials for certain items are not all the same, while items from different companies are using the same exact resources. It begins to beg the question of when exactly slight differences are not 'slight' enough.

When I begin to look at this through this perspective, the idea of labeling items as "fake shoes" or "fake clothes" sounds really comedic to me; what are "fake clothes"? are people wearing food or office supplies and trying to masquerade it as apparel?

For me, functionally, I make distinction in clothes/shoes really in terms of their quality (and I guess design), leaving brands to really just become signifiers of their quality. We have seen 'real' brands make things with absolute s*** quality. We have seen fakes that have better quality than whatever items they were emulating. Now, of course, there are certain brands that adhere to a certain level of manufacturing consciousness/ethics/etc that I want to support, so if I want to support that, then I cant really be buying reps for those brands. That said, those are few and far in between.

Ultimately, I f***ing HAATTTE the cliché ''youre just paying for the name'', BUT the fact is that the more you delve into this s***, the more you find it's so frustratingly true, and impossible to ignore.

Okay nvm mfs are defending smart matches

  • The other point that's kinda separate but kinda tied into what I previously posted is basically the things that are being replicated are the most basic ass s***. You should be more embarrassed with yourself that youre wearing "real" basic ass most common denominator s*** than someone else wearing a rep of what you have.

If you really got game to your s***, no one is making reps of the s*** you like because it isn't that run of the mill s***. That said, someone could also say its because you actually have terrible taste, so of course no one would waste time making reps. I think the fact that both of these statements are true illuminate how pointless it is to care so much anyway.

KTT2 definitely doesn't have the same values as KTT1. This whole site just let common social media thinking/takes overrun it,thus creating a common outlook on things. The respect for fashion just isn't there anymore and this thread is living proof of that.

The issue isn’t so much the fakes in itself, but more so the deception. Within any enthusiast community, people will only care about the ‘real’ thing, exactly because it is the original. It goes for any enthusiast community: cars, furniture, clothes, whatever.

Imagine knowingly buying a high quality bootleg vinyl. Nobody in the world cares and everyone wants you to enjoy it in peace. But I’m sure we can also agree that it’s at the very least provocative to knowingly go to an enthusiast forum and state that it’s no problem to act like your bootleg’s an authentic first press. Naturally people will call you out for being a poser, because you are posing. Bottom line is: nobody likes to be lied to.

  • This thread is extremely eye opening. I didn’t know this many people rocked fakes. Crazy

I don’t think anyone would argue that.

Buying rep sneakers and flaunting them as if they’re real is douche bag behavior. You don’t need to go around telling every person who glances at them that they’re reps either though.

I wear my reps and go on with my day like normal. I don’t post pics of them on social media. If someone compliments them I say “thanks” and keep it moving.

    It’s that simple.

I don’t care about fakes, all I care about people looking good and fashion as aesthetic - if you look good and feel good about it, that’s all that matters.
That said, “fakes” as a concept only really exist because people - even (maybe especially) those buying the dupes - still ultimately care about the reflection of the brand the dupe is of. There generally aren’t dupes of like high fashion runway pieces…it’s almost always of streetwear or things bearing logos and/or brand names. People are buying dupes ultimately because they still feel the brand they’re representing through the dupe has value and wish they could replicate such in a more accessible manner, which is ultimately reinforcing the power of said brands themselves indirectly. No one is just buying a dupe because it “looks cool”. It’s a cyclical discussion.

Well not always, there's fake lands end and s*** like that which has no branding on the clothing or whatever

But 90% of bought fakes gotta be made just for that deception, which is lame as hell
