partially, in contemporary society its really pushed. its viewed as very low class and off-track if you don't go to school.

i don't think its for idiots, but academia definitely does not hold as much esteem as it used to even one hundred years ago. hell, i think a quarter of Americans hold a bachelors degree.

also, there are plenty of people who go through college without even being able to write a coherent thesis -- and i think that speaks volumes for how the majority of people view school: it's less about the learning and more about the experience you receive and the friends you make and the warm comfort that you're on the right track because you're doing what you're told from society

College can be useless to some extent. I don't think general learning (k-12) is "stupid" but I think alot of the curriculum could be considered outdated. I'd say the ones humans really need to learn is History and English. We only need to use some forms of simple math, majority of people never end up using complicated formulas or anything past basic Algebra in their lives unless they have a job that requires it. Same goes with science as well.

It can be necessary to break the barrier to entry in certain fields, but the vast majority of people don’t need to be going to college. Schools have innovated in such a slow progression compared to every other facet of society, with the internet you can learn anything & connect/network with anybody

For the most part yes, most stuff you’re required to learn isn’t applicable in daily life. As far as careers go I’ve always said the same thing... it’s not about WHAT you know, it’s about WHO you know. If you know someone that can get you in, they’ll make sure you get taught, that’s just how it works.
