In hiphop? Jay-Z is bigger. Overall? Snoop is bigger

Ngl, the way the title worded f***ing me up
I'm thinking op meant just overall, as being primarily Hip-Hopers
Not even that he's not well liked. I'm thinking of my best friend family from Ukraine they know 50 and Snoop, not all of them knew Hov
Jay never had that worldwide appeal. Honestly, I don't know too many people that were actually a wide open fan of his.
didnt watch the whole clip but yeah snoop probably bigger culturally outside of hiphop music
i still remember the virality of this image online
and not to mention his friendship with Martha Stewart, like im pretty sure they're doing Super Bowl commercials now
Snoop has like icon levels of crossover recognition, I’d say Hov has maybe less than half of that, I feel like if you don’t leverage that sort of fame into billionaire status you f***ed up somewhere
I think at first glance people would unanimously pick snoop over Hov.
Why wouldn’t you? He’s arguably the most recognisable rapper ever. Snoop could go anywhere on earth and people would know who he is. Can’t say the same for Hov.
But then you have to decipher the most important aspect of the question.
“Culturally bigger in Hip-Hop”
This has nothing to do with international fame and recognition. Strictly the microcosm of hip-hop music and culture.
I don’t think most rappers modelled themselves after snoop.
I don’t think most rappers would put snoop in their top MC’s or rappers lists.
So if that’s the case. Hov wins by a landslide.
Yea. culturally, Jay wins easily. He didn't appeal to alot of people he could've at the time, cause most of the time, he was breaking new ground stylistically/business wise. Snoop still gets a ton of respect as an artist though. The man is arguably one of the inventors of modern rap tbh.
A jay z album is going to sell more
More people are going to know snoop
Snoops career substantively is about one album tbh
Snoop & Shaq basically went the same route where they sell their likeness to the highest bidder I’m not mad at that really lol
Snoops career substantively is about one album tbh
?
The first three albums sold very good and all of them had hits
?
The first three albums sold very good and all of them had hits
I didn’t say he only made one good album did I lol
Crazy rollout before missionary btw. Super Bowl then the Olympics games. It’s beyond imagination tbh, can’t get bigger then that.
I didn’t say he only made one good album did I lol
You said his career is about one album but he had quite a run with his first 3 albums until it crashed
jay z doesn’t have a song w psy so yea
They are on the exact same level of fame, no one knows who knows one and doesn’t know the other. Niggas running out of podcast topics cause ain’t no new legends being made and Nas Hov or Big Pac debates got old lol
?
The first three albums sold very good and all of them had hits
When snoop does a show he probably only does doggystyle, features and the dre pharrell cuts lol
Murder was the case was successful and snoop kept hits but i see what he saying

Snoop Dogg’s contribution to hip-hop culture remains undeniable. When you think of West Coast rap, his name is often one of the first to come up, alongside Dr. Dre, whose association with Snoop further solidifies his legacy.
Every hip-hop artist eventually reaches a crossroads where they must choose between ventures that either enhance their standing within the genre or broaden their public profile. This dynamic can also be seen in the careers of Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
By the time Drake was preparing to release Views, his legacy in hip-hop was already cemented. However, he recognized that there were still greater heights to achieve. To reach them, he chose to expand his presence in pop culture, even if it meant alienating a portion of his core hip-hop audience. Tracks like 'One Dance,' 'Controlla,' and 'Hotline Bling' showcased this shift. Adding to this, the ghostwriting controversy further complicated his standing in hip-hop. Given all this, it’s clear that Drake, while immensely successful, does not hold the same cultural weight in hip-hop as someone like Kendrick.
Ultimately, every artist chooses their own path.

Murder was the case was successful and snoop kept hits but i see what he saying
this is just what it is..hits wise he kept it going into 2010ish whatever
Snoop is a bigger celebrity and persona in the zeitgeist as he is fond of the corporate teet
Of course. Hov might not even be top 5 in this case.
Top 15 if we're keeping it a whole buck.
