    D’Angelo has 1.5 good albums.
Voodoo is spectacular but Black Messiah & his other joint are pretty run of the mill for that genre & his talent group.

You my bro but this is your rare L
brown sugar is amazing. BM is special for what it is but yea definitely his weakest so far

    True

Although I love her, objectively Lil Kim & Missy Elliot deserve that spot

    Missy #1 for me personally

Nas, hov, drake, ye, wayne, common, future

Consistency is about quality not quantity.

Jay Z has as many bad albums as he has good

Nas has about 5 mid albums to his 7 or so good to great ones.

Kanye’s last 4 solos albums are Ye, JiK Donda and Donda II and only one of those are even on What we would consider his level of good

Drake last two albums has been trash

lil Wayne’s last great album was Carter iii and his last project was that Rich the kidd collab.

And I’m not even mentioning future.

So Again how are they consistent?

Dude just listen to more music bro it’s not that deep.

Dangelo is amazing and no ones taking that away. Voodoo is in my top 5 oat. His other albums, for that particular genre and musicianship they’re pretty average/above average record.
B+ Album compared to an A+ Voodoo and B, Brown Sugar.

Black Messiah pulls from his core influence of Prince heavily. 2 main albums Rainbow Children and Musicology are imo key successors of Black Messiah and sonically, those albums aren’t any different. Bro is using Prince sounds and vocal stylings on his album. The Charade is an example. Awesome song but again it’s a good album but not original.

For an artist of his caliber, heavily leaning on his idols that was disappointing. That’s what makes Voodoo so damn good, he was Dangelo and nobody else.

Musically, anyone can hit up their local jazz/funk club and hear this level of music on a Saturday night.

Consistency can also be used to describe an action being the same over a period of time, in this case he consistently releasing music. Either way semantics

If D'Angelo is releasing one album a decade he is by definition consistently releasing music

And yes it is semantics, you're using the wrong word

  • Niggas dead ass would prefer Kendrick to drop trash every year than to drop a masterpiece every three. Lol

I’m out see y’all tonight for Pusha and Q

I feel like you were asked earlier to list some other names though. who's in his class that you would regard as more original while having better or the same quality of music? I put Badu in that category for sure.

Imo Drake doesnt have an album thats fw TPAB or GKMC and lowkey even Untitled but Kendrick went awol on the game. While Drake was supplying the people a whole soundtrack for their lives.

You gotta take stuff like that into account when talking about the GOAT.

Same w Dangelo. Bro got 3 albums in 30 years. You cant put him above niggas thats dropping fire repeatedly

    Nerd quantifying art alert

Marvin Gaye advanced stats beat D'Angelo in a Pokemon battle so Black Messiah is mid now

Dangelos style of music is scare on the mainstream. That’s why when Kendrick dropped TPAB people called it “critic bait” using live instrumentation and the subject manner isn’t common. TPAB is one of my favorites and it’s in the stylings of a Digable Planet, Pharcyde, Black Star album.

A better Like Water For The Chocolate type album. All classics too

lotta niggas don't be dropping fire repeatedly tho that's the thing. it don't be that high-grade. D'Angelo is a special case cause he really a hermit. you get the album and that's it. hardly anything in between, no appearances or nothing. but when it does come...it doesn't disappoint.

All the niggas listed itt have imo. Everyone included itt besides anderson Paak is a certified legend. Were debating legends vs legends.

Like if I say Allen Iverson isnt above Curry thats not a slight on AI.

Same way If I put somebody over Dangelo thats not intended as a slight on him
