Now that we have moved beyond mixtapes being relevant and SoundCloud is mostly dead, what’s does the new generation have to look forward to outside of official drops? Leaks are super prevalent now too but those songs arnt even picked by the artist to drop so they don’t really count but is this new Deluxe album trend the new “Here’s some songs between the official drops”?

Not really nah. I think the Mixtape disappeared just like the single b side did.

Mixtapes are still around. They just changed to include original music instead of rapper over other rappers beats

Yeah but it doesnt mean anything anymore. Mixtapes are right next to albums on the DSPs.

That was only lost because records died and other mediums became the new norm. Mixtapes mainly died due to legal reasons (DMCA)
