When topics like this come up it's always use meme uk rappers as representative of the scene, this like using 69 or someone as the rep for u.s rap lol

i see how the accent is a drawback but a lot of dudes used it well, especially those with a story to tell, or living a life that reflected the music they were making like these guys the Harlem Spartans

i think 2 of them ended up being stabbed to death (Bis, the first guy in this video is one of them) and one of the others is serving time, tragic story no doubt, but the music that came from the scene had authentic energy, like it's a no brainer NY adopted their beats. i hardly used to think about the accent back then, but yeah, sometimes it stands out.

I listen to UK rap regularly and don't separate it from US rap and since I've lived in UK I am accustomed to their accents. I do find it funny because I listen to certain US rappers and their accents are so thick that I don't understand them or they just aren't legible like Lil Baby or Playboi Cart or Rylo Rodriguez or NBA Youngboy. I get some UK rappers accents are so thick but guys like Stormzy or Hus or Dave or Cence are fine. I f*** with Headie but his accent or rather his flow is too fast but he's dope. Also Unknown T but I do attribute that to their flow more than their accent.

  • American rap isnt taken seriously anymore outside of America. Average American rapper is short, weak, & exude beta energy & possess little to no rapping ability.
