@op did a whole ass thread just to end up witnessing The Weeknd selling out stadiums but also filling the outside of these stadiums
Lol I took a huge L for sure. I don't think this achievement is talked about enough though, no one else in this "gen" in R&B/rap does stadiums. Last one was Beyonce i think and that's prev gen
genuinely one of the lowest IQ users on this site lol
he makes a load of dumb posts in the sales thread and they gas his head up in there outside of like @shaleirose and a handful of other users
you think it's low IQ to doubt whether an artist can sell out stadiums when no one had done it in over 10 years previous to The Weeknd? interesting
shaleriose thinks Drake wouldn't sell 100k fw with bundles btw
He straight up said he misses big generic radio music because music being popular makes it more enjoyable to him. Like pretty much word for word he said this
I realise you guys don't have friends when you disagreed w/ that lol
Who doesn't like it when your friends/family are listening to the same music as you? It's pretty boring when everyone's into different s***
Enjoying the same music as people is a very enjoyable experience, who knew

So it has to be generic radio music for everyone to enjoy something?
So it has to be generic radio music for everyone to enjoy something?
Nah but it definitely increases the amount of people you know who'll enjoy it right?
Idk man music isn't just some alone experience for me, I like the cultural impact it has sometimes where it feels like everyone's listening to the same song/album, those moments are rare now is what my point was back then. I still enjoy music lol, I just enjoy it more if I can talk about it and vibe to it with people
I just miss those Blinding Lights/God's Plan/Sicko Mode/One Dance type situations, music isn't as fun to me anymore because it's become so segmented

Most people here just like music bruh. There’s an audience for every artist.
And diverse music tastes among friends is probably one of the best things because you get put on to new music/subcultures
Idk it’s just crazy wanting “generic radio music” and wanting everyone to be on the same wave.

Yeah but I have to work to get people to enjoy the s*** i'm into, that isn't fun to me, probably because I'm not really that into music as I used to be, and neither are people I know anymore. Everyone I know has got their tastes and theyre basically set on them now, except when a big new hit comes out
I just miss when there was more to music than just the actual... music. I miss the antics/crazy s*** and cultural impact it used to have
superstar culture in general is dying fast too, and I really don't like that. Uzi has basically fallen off already, Carti can't sell out arenas, travis kinda struggled selling out arenas. music is just in a weird state

I guess I just never listened to music for that type of s***. Like I never cared about superstar culture or charts or anything like that.
I always felt like the actual music was the most important thing followed by the people, cultures, and stories surrounding it.
One of the best things about hip hop and music in general is that every area/region has their own sound/style/etc that’s unique to them. Music becoming less centralized highlights more of that
Stadium tours dont mean s*** anymore

a white guy with songs like Blinding Lights, Starboy, Secrets, Take My Breath, Here We Go Again, and Often would be considered Pop.
People need to acknowledge that every black singer is not R&B
Beyoncé is Pop
so is The Weeknd
No and people itt are really underestimating how big stadiums are
When you’re able to convince 80k+ people to spend hundreds of their hard-earned money just to see you live performing >>>
He's a popstar
He's a black pop star that's creative and has a really interesting, focused artistic direction and identity
None of which makes him inherently R&B
I don't think he's been R&B on any level since Kiss Land, when he was on the pop end of the early 10s alt R&B wave with songs like Wanderlust

You're acting like he's making some alternative experimental ass music these days and that the biggest popstar of all time isn't black

As both an artist and a fan, music is a massive part of my identity and a lot of my friendships have music at the center of it, so the shared musical experiences that we all have are really cool and important to me. I still like festivals and concerts and it's cool when I find new songs I like that end up being huge at karaoke bars and stuff.
But I also treasure being able to share things with people that they would have never heard otherwise and I never, ever think less of artists because they didn't blow up. We're all on our own paths. My favorite rock band of all time, Big Star, was infamous for all the horrible bad luck they endured during their short run.
All the chart talk on here is in one ear and out the other for me. It's just numbers. But a stadium full of Weeknd fans is a really cool concept to me because I was recommending House of Balloons to people when it wasn't on streaming services and people didn't even know what Abel looked like.

It's definitely not avant garde, but a successful stadium tour supporting an album as weird as Dawn FM in 2023 is pretty wild to think about. It's an accomplishment.

It's his catalog ranging back through BBTM - After Hours carrying the demand for his tour. Dawn FM was a flop

The Weeknd’s flops are better than most artists hits honestly
Has nearly 4B streams and is still racking in 3M streams every day, been that consistent since it dropped too
