That dynamic makes a lot of sense w why it’s an issue more than just in a vacuum
But it still has me wondering why white people in hip-hop is accepted considering a similar dynamic exists there historically

    Black people are too accepting

Yeah USA mainstream rap here is really like the big hits and a few rappers that are forgotten after some time, like i remember Lil Pump, 6ix9ine and XXXtentacion being more famous here than drake

They brought trap to Spain and got a lot of hate for that. Now they are way more respected and you can see people giving they theirs props (a lot of trappers from Argentina have said they were a big influence like duki, Cazzu...)

I understand why someone wouldn't like their music but i love it and i think they also made reggaeton because they always doing what they want

Drake blew up with In My Feelings because of the challenge. Even though he was part of Work by Rihanna, which was big everywhere.

    wtf does needed mean

she already makes beautiful music with incredible producers and makes popular music with commercial artists what else is there

I'm talking bout having a huge hit in the US.

I expected way more from a song feat Billie. And the track feat Travis was just ok.

Blidining Lights first verse was also bad. The Weeknd has an unique voice, she couldn't keep up.

Oh I mean speculating about hits is kinda bird talk to me but I have no idea why it would be too late she’s so talented has great taste and is beautiful she could do whatever feels like her career is just budding

Its not about stanning, she aint trash.

Its about the fact her label is putting her everywhere in hopes she gets mainstream US appeal, which is annoying.

  • Feb 4, 2021

yeah I also think Rosalia is mad overrated

A lot of artists who are way worse than rosalia are heavily pushed too. I didnt mind her features in hitr and blinding lights personally, and she's actually talented so its better having her pushed than someone who's gonna go into irrelevancy in a few months

These last two tracks, Billie feat and Blinding Lights remix did some damage. She has to be careful what she drops from now on, at least when it comes to these tracks she makes for the US.

A hit feat Drake could be pretty dope. Hope it will happen.

All of this doesn't matter when there's 1 demographic that owns distributes all of music...
Capitalism skewed the whole "let's share our beautiful culture" your talking about

it's not "sharing" it's taking up market space in a market that treats "colored" people unfairly (financially and morally speaking)

Basically, let's allow everyone in our culture (whatever non-white culture that may be) but we aren't allowed in their's with the same ease, welcome and opportunities...

The problem if I'm not mistaken is that she's not embracing Latino/as but making money of of their culture reggeaton... So the whole "she can educate, uplift , acknowledge Latino culture" falls apart as she is already showing signs of not embracing that Latino identity (she is not apart of- she's a white European from spain)

By "you don't understand the dynamics" I meant :

she's from the country of their colonizers... doing the music that originated iirc in the poorer Latino communities (with alot of black people), the dynamic is akin to a British white woman doing dancehall music and not claiming to be Jamaican (dancing around the question saying there are no borders, ma'am yes there are borders your ancestors violated them to commit crimes against humanity, stop playing.) ... It's off and comes of as opportunistic.

The fact that she's from Spain makes her non-latina. The fact that she's white doesn't. Latino/-a isn't a race. Argentinians (and that's just an example) are latinos and most of them are white. So Rosalía can't do latin-influenced music because she is an ancestor of the colonizers? But at the same time, a lot of the reggaeton artists that are big now, are probably more closely related to actual colonizers, since they are actually white people from the continent that was colonized.

Rosalía's from Barcelona so she can't even claim her flamenco-pop as her own, neither ethnically or culturally/regionally.

I don't get why people a***yze it so much, like it or not, Spain is known for flamenco. So there's nothing wrong with her doing flamenco.

And so many artists are doing reggaeton now, that's the biggest Spanish speaking music right now. It's been like that for so long.

The problem is that she is aware that people thinks she is latina and instead of publicly deny it she rides that wave.

Nothing wrong with doing any genre you want tho

People don't think she is latina. Americans thinks that she's latina, and she just doesn't make a big deal out of it, much like how Antonio Banderas has always been looked at as a latin actor by many, getting latino type of roles.
