Canibus had crazy hype built around him and while his debut album Can-I-Bus does have a few really good tracks and his rapping is top notch the production and subject matter just leaves something to be desired...not only botched the momentum Canibus had but also pretty much put an end to any aspirations Wyclef had of expanding his Refugee All Star crew into a viable thing

it'd be like if Nas started his career off with Nastradamus

true but you could also argue that Acid Rap was a prior success despite it being a free release at the time...Bis didn't have anything but some freestyles and guest appearances (as well as the LL s***) to hype him up

this one definitely up there though what a disappointment

Yea that might be the most disappointing albums in hip hop

Canibus hype was crazy bruh was rapping on a completely different level than everyone at the time and dropped an album that was damn near unlistenable

there are some tracks I enjoy but even those give off a bit of a corny vibe idk...he was never able to really recover unfortunately even though Rip the Jacker and 2000 BC were an improvement

if the rest of the album was on that level it would have been fire...instead we got weird concept songs and production that was all over the place...Clef was tryna do what Westside Gunn's currently doing which was be another Puffy or whoever and missed the mark completely (same with Ghetto Supastar which aside from the hit single and like 3 other songs is a dud as well...difference being nobody really expected a Pras solo to be a classic lol)

there's definitely some really good songs/lyrics in there...again though Bis should have had a debut similar to Illmatic where it's just a lyrical onslaught over top notch production...instead Wyclef tried to add in that pop/Caribbean sound which just didn't work with Bis's style...Rip the Jacker was amazing and a great example of the kinda production Bis needed IMO...even 2000 BC was a lil better but still not it

I feel like Bis got him back with his response to that but LL was just too big of a name and with Bis's album not hittin like it was supposed to he just got buried

Might catch heat for saying this but Thank Me Later is up there for me.

Not a bad album but the hype levels were through the roof for Drake in 09. People saw him as Wayne's protege and the new ringleader of rap and TML was just "ehhh" and a lot of the songs came and went.

He bounced back fast with Take Care though.

truth be told, second round k.o. was the better diss but LL had the machine behind him and hype that immediately killed canibus. he loss before he even entered the ring.

it's weird bc that's also the last time LL was super active in Hip-Hop...he dropped an album or two after but I don't remember them being huge things

he's one of those guys who unfortunately was before my time...Mr. Smith is a fire album but in general he's someone who I've always had trouble really calling myself a fan of
