I have a mac and when it boots up it shuts down half way. I took the HD out and loaded up to a reader on another mac. I saw my hard drive but none of the files was showing. so i said f it and dragged my HD into a external HD but it shut down during mid transfer

sorry if this wasn't suppose to go on this section
    any help is appreciated.

Try Recuva. Idk if it works on dead harddrives but I recovered s*** from a formatted drive through that

Would like to know this too, I have two external hard drives id love to get files off of, but they are busted (it might just be the port though, I think the hard drives may be fine)

Lost a hard drive during a power blackout that fried my PSU, didn't have a UPS

I also might have done some damage by installing a new PSU into that build and not using new cables to reconnect everything.

Did a new build, have a UPS now, and saving the hard drive as a little time capsule that one day I'll cough up the $500 or so to get it into a lab and hopefully recover what I have on it

you can ruin your whole system by using the old cables on a new PSU

Yup I learned the hard way that day. Wouldn't turn on at all after the power surge, turned on after the new psu but everything got f***ed by using the new cables

Needed a new build anyway but hoping eventually the price for hard drive recovery lab services comes down

Yeah try the quick scan first. If it doesn't work, try the more thorough scan ( don't remember the option for it). I didn't get any results until the thorough scan
