@retro_77 Success might have a part in the /backlash, but even more important to incessant vitriol and hating is reverence and adoration. For example, Rihanna is more commercially successful and richer than Beyonce, but Bey gets more hate and vitriol because she’s revered and place on a higher pedestal within the industry hierarchy. The Public perception of the amount of adoration she gets drives the hate more than anything else.

It's almost impossible these days to get to that level (at least in Hip Hop) without scarficing your artistic integrity.....which has always been looked down upon by passionate music fans
