Dec 28, 2020Perhaps the idea of a ‘big three’ throughout history in different fields, rap included, is a narrative we force because we like the idea of a pattern or holy trinity
And maybe in reality it’s a Stone Cold/Rock in the Attitude Era sorta thing, where there’s a yin/yang of two individuals that dominate in terms of respect and appeal, and a few others beside them who make their mark as well
In the 2010s that would be Drake/Kendrick, late 00s Wayne/Kanye. We’ve yet to see that pair for the 20s (Lil Baby could be 1a or 1b in this)
