It's more classism. Field workers were in the sun all day while royals could stay inside and not tan. Asians are obsessed with light skin because it symbolizes status, and that becomes the beauty standard. Chinese girl I went out with used a sun umbrella bc she feared getting a tan lmao

This was my inclination, that it boils down to social appearances based on western cultural standardizations of beauty, wealth etc. Some whitewashed Asians even resort to removing the distinctive genetic eye fold/flap making them appear more elongated so that they look more European. S*** is wild/pathetic/sad. I dont think that's a common practice, however.

Some s*** about white being seen as pure and representing wealth/status or whatever. I don't know man, K-Pop acts are weird as f*** in that they do their best to look more white but continue stealing from black people and mocking us. F*** em tbh.
