Why do people subscribe to these ideologies?

I know a coworker who’s a chill guy and looks nice, but in the break room a couple of times he talked about the red pill concepts and s*** when I asked him if he ever been into a relationship. He’s some 25 year old man who never had a gf or anything like that, he talkin about being “alpha” or whatever delusional s***.

I looked this up online and oh meee it’s sooo spooky. This is some cult, Scientology-tier s*** with brainwashing and they’re preying on young, gullible men. Like man when growing up I’ve never seen s*** like this before, is this some zoomer thing?

It's always the biggest losers and weirdos that lecture people on how to "properly" get laid or be in a relationship. The reals keep their secrets to themselves, they aint selling them for $9.99 or making Youtube series about it. Too busy gettin that puss. I wouldn't know but like I assume.

I don't know enough about it to give a definitive answer as to whether it's a scam or not, but as to why people subscribe imo:

Environmental factors, from the lack of true male mentors in their lives to institutional failings. Personal accountability plays a small part in breaking out of this of course, but putting too much weight into this you start to teeter into woke bootstrapping territory which is silly
