ICEMAN40Dude I get your point. Here’s my take on this and maybe you’ll say I’m glazing, etc.. but I really think this discussion revolves around who drake is as an artist. He’s a blend of pop and rap (primarily those two) and those two worlds do not clash together well as far as rules in pop and rules in rap and I think that’s the disconnect here. There’s no question that when Drake is barring up he’s written every single word but when the song gets poppy or it’s a quick feature.. I could see him collaborating with someone.
Also, one thing I’ve always found bizarre that no one has considered.. there’s no way to know how those references came to existence. What if drake already had an idea and rough draft but needed help with cadence or tweak a couple bars to fit the theme of the song I mean dude there will never be a way to know the whole truth of how much people actually helped per song or album. I mean Drake (and I’m sure Kendrick and a lot of other artists) give album credits to their friends or people they are close to for even the smallest of things.
My point is maybe we are just going to have to concede and appreciate greatness or not appreciate it.. but this discourse since 2015 is nuts and we’ll all never truly know what’s going down behind the scenes. We (KTT) all sound insane still arguing about this tbh 😂
You know I’m a big Drake fan. Said he’s been my most listened to artists for the past couple of years in the beef thread. He’s the biggest commercial rapper we’ve ever seen and, in that regard, no one matches him.
I feel like people on here argue each other but are arguing different things. You said it perfectly when saying he’s a blend of pop and rap. It’s different audiences with different criteria that they’re judging with. I saw someone say on here that even if he lost this beef, he’d still be the biggest rapper, so he still won. And that pretty much sums up everything. We’re arguing different things.
