Everyone’s main critique with this album is being that “this is diet Kanye” “Yeezy ominescent” “copying straight from Ye”.

In a sense yea he’s been a doppelgänger of Kanye and cudi for the longest but it kinda is Travis copying himself right here. He’s plays a significant part in the sound of Yeezus so how is he copying Kanye right here? If anything he’s just copying his 2012-13 era

How y’all liking this album tho?

didn't finish it yet but a lot of tracks sounded like ye tracks kinda

Ye doesn't own that sound. Kanye just yoinked M.I.A and Death Grips.

Utopia sounds way more like Kanye, even down to the flows and vocal inflections, than Yeezus sounds like Death Grips. Even in 2013 that comparison was forced.

    Life is a circle

Who cares, the album sounds great either way

Travis didn’t play as big a role on yeezus as his apologists will have you think

He wasn’t making music at that point, it’s well known he would steal beats from others and then bring them to Ye and Jay and claim he made them

So maybe if anything he’s copying the people he stole from a decade ago

  • Jul 29, 2023

    he copying charles manson

  • im usually the first to hate on trav but it felt like good faith homage to me when i listened to it

who exactly had what parts in creating whatever that nebulous sound is impossible to say. the overt stuff was pretty tasteful imo

  • Jul 29, 2023

first versions of yeezus had kanye working with skrillex cause american dubstep & edm blew up in 2011

he also worked with daft punk on stronger n did a performance in 2008

yeezus sound is like daft punk’s modular synths+gesaffelstein industrial dark atmo +hudmo brass sounds+arca’s experimental +kanye sampling

    glad you said it

apart from CM I don't really get the copying allegations given that he had a hand in Yeezus

God’s Country and Telekinesis. I guess modern jam counts too because it was an old beat from Yeezus

Who really cares. The music sounds good.

  • Jul 29, 2023

All music builds on prior influences. He could have switched up some of these beats a bit more so it wouldn’t be as obvious but it’s clearly intentional

  • Jul 29, 2023

Though counting Modern Jam seems disingenuous. I'm pretty sure it's just Travis' version of the beat that Rick Rubin scrapped like most Travis contribution to Yeezus. Not wrong to reuse his own beat.

Also like 10 other songs on here that sound very fresh not sure what the issue is

  • Jul 29, 2023

thank god he jacking ye instead of mid cudi

travis has been a better cudi than cudi since like 2014 anyway
