They don't want to destroy the oil infrastructure because that would be very costly to the rest of the world. They want to control it and use it as leverage against Iran. The US already bombed it and Trump said he purposely left the oil infrastructure intact.

I guarantee you Iran has that island presighted by thousands of munitions especially now that the US openly intends to capture it

    excursion over?

  • plightone

Yeah i guess but i still dont really see why that necessitates actual troops on the ground there. They will force workers to operate the factories??

If they just blow up all of the pipelines, nearly 18 million barrels of oil that's being stored and other infrastructure it would f*** up the entire world and take years to rebuild. Iran would also retaliate by hitting oil refineries throughout the region and likely desalination plants.

They want to control Iran's oil flow. That island can load 10 super tankers at a time. It's worth about 50% of the Iranian government's spending. If they can take and hold it the US would have tremendous leverage over Iran to use in negotiations to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Oh for sure. If they try capturing the island tons of US soldiers would die and idk how you even hold it. Iran can just sit on top of their mountains and lob missiles and launch drones all day.
