    feels like it was really taking control of hip-hop in 2016 to early 2017. then lil peep and xxxtentacion died and it came to a sudden stop. imagine how different hip-hop would be if they were still alive. i probably wouldn't enjoy it as much but it's still weird to think about

    before they died they were already getting into making pop music esp x so it wouldn't have really mattered

    i think the sudden end of the soundcloud/emo phase left hip-hop in a soul-searching period from 2018-19, with no new style to replace it. which is why these years have been so bad in terms of new artists and releases. fortunately street rap is here to save the day

    Peep was also going full pop in 2017 tbh pretty sure he was gonna move to more upbeat lyrics too
