How many people actually own their masters right out of the gate tho when signing to major labels? I don't really consider that getting f***ed per se because it's just something that seems so standard.
But if he gives up 33% of his masters to the label, then who owns the rest?
And he gives up 25% of his publishing and keeps the rest iirc so even if he's getting 'fucked' he's in a better situation than most from what I can tell.
Yeah i dont think many people own their masters out the gate. Jay got his back because he became president of def jam i believe. But:
Drake is signed to Aspire (Cortez), Young Money and Cash Money, who all own 33% each of his masters. Drake has a standard 18% royalty fee deal, which he gets after his a couple hundred thousand dollar advance is recouped.
