Ever since I was a wee lad, every four years, the greatest summer event imaginable comes along and brightens my life for a month

2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, all iconic in their own way and provided some of the most lasting memories that I have

Now thanks to corrupt FIFA and the Qatari’s dirty oil money, there is no awesome World Cup about to start and kick off another iconic World Cup summer

Instead it will be during the winter, and basically, for now I just have to stand around with my d1ck in my hand

The UN should arrest all fifa suits and invade Qatar for crimes against humanity

Thank you so much for making this thread. I’ve been raging for weeks that we’re getting deprived of one of the great traditions cus we just had to have a World Cup in uninhabitable Qatar.

I don’t think any one single thing makes me more angry than thinking about this.

It’s cool though we’ll watch when it’s freezing outside in November and everyone is busy as s*** working

Can I just say that Zidane at the 2006 World Cup was the absolute peak of soccer performance ever. I remember watching him in those knockout stage games like this is the greatest live performance I’ve ever seen.

the first World Cup I watched, an amazing experience, Zidane really did go beast mode, it’s a shame he let materazzi get under his skin cuz his magical run on the pitch gets overshadowed by it now

And the timing of the World Cup annoys me too cuz it overlaps with the end of the semester and finals

I want a large block of relatively free time to devote to hours on hours watching random group stage matches

And then the next one, of course, will have 48 and not 32 teams, which is even more f***ed than the winter version not necessarily bc there are more teams but bc they decided on 16 groups of 3 teams and the top two of three go on to the 32-team knockout round, which is totally bogus

the perfect drama of trying to finish in the top two of your four-team group to make it to a round of 16 is basically geometric

the group stages is sapped of its energy and one more round of knockout stage, while it will be fun, isn't worth it, as it makes the whole thing unbalanced

group games are fun and no one who really loves football was like "man, world cup group games," they're so boring (although diluting the quality of play with 16 more qualifying teams who would have missed the cut in prior cups seems like an attempt to make it more so)

i knew for a while 2018 would be the last 32-team summer world cup... but its only just really hitting me that we'll never see its likes again, bc we should be at this very moment

I’m not a huge footy follower, but I thought they pushed it back because of COVID and qualifying games being pushed back
