It's still hated. It's arguably the worst era of rap in terms of keeping anything within the roots of hip-hop and showing any sort of different styles. Almost NONE of that music was made for longevity and that's why even after 3 years most of that music is just flat out unlistenable.

If you were a kid and I mean in EARLY college / high school or younger, then obviously you're gonna enjoy music that has that "teenage angst" and the "fuck you and any authority figure in my way" message behind it, and if you're older than 21 or out of college, obviously that stuff comes off as just childish nonsense and cheesy.

Nowadays Tik Tok is just an extension of the SC era, and even the same people who enjoyed the SC era are too old for Tik Tok and they say "it's trash".

It's literally just cycles as you said, new stuff comes and the older people will hate on it.

The real solution would for older artists to embrace it and mentor the young guys while the young guys respect the og's of the genre. That way everything could co exist peacefully.

But the youth doesn't want to hear any of that "dusty nonsense" and the old people gonna immediately write off anything unordinary as "trash and NOT hip hop"

Also it’s Chinese and been proven that they spy on more people than just their citizen with that s*** app and f*** social media.

Only ones that work are the anonymous ones.

I think maybe you’re misunderstanding the hate. It was never the sound that was hated on, SoundCloud rap isn’t a sound, it goes back way before this latest wave. “SoundCloud rappers” is a derogatory term because anyone can put their music on soundcloud easy and people like to hate on local rappers or just rappers who aren’t famous. It has nothing to do with the sound and the hate is still there. No one ever gave X or Carti s*** for being “SoundCloud rap”, it’s exclusive to people who aren’t popping

  • its literally the reverse

its so funny to see all the different names and categories of music now that everyone raps over rolling hi hats and synths

soundcloud rap and the box are not the same thing. soundcloud rap as i knew it in 2014-2016 (bones sgp awful early carti) and lil tecca are not the same thing.

between bones/sesh, awful records days w carti and then carti going more so towards the plug/pierre sound and the offspring of that breeding what it bred and now its all lumped together lol
