na its white people who glorify it lmao. stop with this narrative that these rappers are glorifying their experiences when they are just saying how it is, and what they went through.

that s*** is backwards asf and not how you solve "street culture"

While this is somewhat true, at what point does personal accountability come in? Yes, some aspects of street culture/rap is simply narrating the conditions they grew up, while other parts literally glorify catching bodies, selling d****, etc.

It'll stop being "glorified" when the environments that cause such a f***ed up beginning and future for these artists disappear.

For every gang-riddled area there will be a child that sees that as a way to survive and later express that experience.

It's more than choosing to sound like a boring ass rapper like Logic.

That's some outside looking in s***.

I wonder though if any responsibility goes to the rappers. The culture is extremely violent and people are killing each other over petty s***.

I think that environment and influence do not determine people entirely.. there are still good choices that can be made in spite of it.

Can we stop encouraging violent music and videos and realize that this s*** is adding to the vioent lifestyle people are engaging in

Nah believe it or not, it’s a ingrained into southern culture. ATL, Chicago St. Louis people into it heavy. And I mean everybody from momma auntie, whoever the f***, is tuned into ig negativity involving street s***

this is why this “dialogue” won’t ever get anywhere

yes, there are people who are white that glorify it, just like there are people of all different races and backgrounds who glorify a subsection of what is LITERALLY the most popular genre in the mainstream right now

this issue is so much more complicated then “white people glorify it” because while some do, street rap is obviously not being listened to by just white people - and what “glorifies” this in the first place is the fact that you can make a come-up off of being a street rapper - people from all walks of life love this sub-genre of music - so there is major monetary incentive to stay in this box in terms of the subject matter so that you have a chance at getting out of your situation and making a living for yourself

it boggles my mind that some of can simplify this down as much as you are, you must not want to actually find solutions

I don't think many of these rappers care so long as they get to spread their own lifestyle and experiences in the music, regardless if it's negative or "demonic", as some say. The public and higher ups already look down on them, so why conform to a clean standard when they've been left behind.

Responsibility is something that should obviously be taken, but it's easier to just say that than actually enforce because the product of pain and devastation in that cycle is so unshakable.

i feel like a lot of of glorifying killing, and d****, and alladat is because of the endorsement of this behavior through mainstream media, which is ran by white people.

there is personal accountability but i feel like it shouldn't be completely blamed on the artists who are releasing this music.

im just saying just cause u listen to a certain kind of music doesn't mean you act out its literal content. sure some people do but the VAST majority of people who are listening to trap music and street rappers are not from the life or ever will be

i get you i feel like i didnt really phrase my meaning in the right way lmaoo becuase i feel like we would agree.

when i say "white people" i mean mainstream media which pushes this type of behavior forward, even when you look at some small-scale studies done white people tend to like rap more. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/258143875_Rap_and_Race_It's_Got_a_Nice_Beat_but_What_about_the_Message (this study and article i log into through my school to read about)

i feel like me simplifying this down to "white people glorify it" is based on my personnel experience on where i see white people listening to that type of music which is not fair.

BUT with that said I feel like a lot of people think that if "street/ghetto" rap simply goes away than the issues that black communities go through will go away. it will solve NOTHING. these issues will still exist. it seems like this is something people are just scared to confront.

i have many solutions that i think will help this issue to help but i think we can start at many different places that will help black communities.

Btw u do realize that mfers literally get shot everyday & those guys atleast had the chance to break out thru raping about it rather than get stuck there

Stop blaming the genre for a lack of accountability among individuals.

Well yea I didn't mean every single person will be influenced by it like that

There's levels of influence tho not everyone is out shooting people but misogyny for example runs rampant

When young people listen to this kind of music you know it is having an influence on the way they think

And as a rapper you know it's true. So these rappers are willingly sending a bad image for $

    F*** these rappers
